Sorry if this is a useless bit of info for some folk but just thought I'd tell you what happened at the weekend.
We needed some new batteries and I usually make use of a well known chandlers' offer where they give you £8 off when you trade in your old 'uns.
This time I decided to go to a scrapyard myself and weigh them in as I heard the price of lead had gone up. I rang round a few places and the prices given surprised me as they varied quite a bit.
Anyway after much deliberation, I went straight to the place who quoted the best price (50p/Kg) and got £64 quid for three batts - which was more than I expected.
Thought I would share if anyone is thinking of getting some new batteries. Now, what to splurge that extra moola on...

A bog standard 663 110ah battery weighs as near as makes no difference 25kg
You can use that as a benchmark

Three batteries weighed 128Kg? I did wonder if they had messed up - the guy weighed them with other stuff on the scales and had to a bit of maffs (with a large calculator)...

Some batteries have more lead in them than others of the same Ah rating.

Man recommends lithium to person who goes to scrapyard to penny pinch - maybe one day magnet man! I was not referring to batteries

Some batteries have more lead in them than others of the same Ah rating. For a typical 105/110Ah battery there's about 4Kg difference between the lightest and heaviest. Even a Trojan only weighs 28Kg.
