Should the AR not be run together .=.-. ? yes it should. Some operators used to extend the dash of the "A" so it used to sound as . ____ . _ . You are correct in that it was a symbol not actually two letters bit like the start symbol (CT) _ . _ . _

ALL I can add is this 🖕 Morse code bar for ... --- ... Is lost on me.
Pleasingly when you use the search function in emoji's typing 'The Bird' instantly yields the above 😎👍🍻

Strange what the mind hangs onto..I can remember standing with flags being tested for my badge...morse i only knew SOS.

I remember learning it in the church hall and doing what ever message I had to do to pass.
However I have never used it since. I presume those that remember it used it for a living such as in the forces.

I used to listen to Morse code on shortwave radio. Never had any idea what was being communicated but the idea that people were relaying information via bleeps seemed good and it was quite relaxing listening to it. A bit like a Beethoven concerto.
Must be quite bad for the carpal tunnel. Specially if it is a heated argument being had.

Variations in procedure! Must confess I wouldn't end with AR K : "AR",to me, is either "out" or "break" if sending a separate message straight after the first one, and "K" is "over", expecting a reply.
