Well I shall move the boat northward today, not been two weeks yet at my present location and I must admit Cosgrove my next stop is not a favourite place of mine. All this assumes of course I can get in with 70 foot? it never ceases to amaze you can pass a quiet section and round the corner find twenty boats all in a row, there are some continuous cruisers with three boats and all projects and while I am moaning whats this madness with community thing that friends moor next to friends? its gone like a floating social club in some places.

Sounds a bit like your jealous because you've got no friends and find it difficult to find a mooring for your 70' boat.

I haven't CC'd on the canals, but I used to CC a motorhome around Spain. I travelled in a group with friends, usually it was about 6 vans. It was great travelling in a group and had lot of benefits. There was always someone at "home" to keep an eye on the vans so no security worries. Those with kids took turns in baby sitting for each other and we had some great parties. A little travelling community. It was great fun, I miss it.

Last Summer I picked up a load of parcels from my sister's house, stuff I had ordered from Ebay and Amazon, and as Witchy was driving our boat along the Coventry Canal I had time to nip inside and rummage through my packets. In one there were two white pilot's shirts with epaulettes and I tried these on for size and put a tie on as I wanted to see what I looked like for when I went back to work in August. As I was on deck looking rather smart, a couple of boats went past. They must have thought it was strange attire for a boater. I have had labels made for sewing onto our shirts for when we go boating. They say 'Commander Turner' and 'Commander Stenberg', as indeed we are the commanders of our vessel. (Pilots of South African Airways planes are known as 'Commander', not 'Captain'). (And what's good for the goose is good for the fox, as they say).

Does this relate to anything else posted in this thread, Or are you playing the random post game. Or maybe the camera lens mentioned in the "Crt" thread was in the parcels you picked up from your sisters house. Yours confused kris Ah now I've got it, you where continuous cruising when you Picked up the parcels.

"I do jump quickly from subject to subject, but they are all related somehow."
Unless you explain the relationship it is just a guessing game for people reading. But please don't let me stop you, just keep posting random thoughts every where. Imagine if we all did that now that would be a weird forum.
Regards kris
Sorry on reading that back it sounds a bit pompous, post what you like where you want . Just don't expect me to reply if I don't know what your on about.

Who's Scottish? I'm 75% Scottish which is why I feel I have the right to take the piss out of the Scots.

Just cruised through Milton Keynes. All the usual popular spots were busy (mainly continuous cruisers).
CRT are once again in the process of developing a problem to solve. The local EO is telling people that he considers stoke bruerne to Leighton Buzzard is acceptable. This is all very well, but in 12 months time, CRT will be stating they have problems in the area with "overcrowding", and out will roll the "fixes".
It may well suit some folk, and I'm not bothered how anyone cruises, but your being baited, and set up. Look at the bigger picture, your being conned.

I don't think your ever going to satisfy CRT as its in their hands to move the goalposts at any time. What do you do? I read a publication " So you want to be a continuous cruiser " and that was the first time I saw 20 miles in print which as you know has no legal basis but its a minimum figure that they quote and the one that anyone buying a boat for the first time will be familiar with. Meanwhile the bulk of boats are moving so our friends on other forums will be happy, but new boats appear weekly and as you allude to,pressure on space will become a problem. As an organisation they seem out of touch and often clueless and as boaters we lack both organisation and a credible agenda.

I just don't understand how boaters think everything will be the same and nothing will change. There are a few people in for a huge shock .

If you mean people who aren't moving to the recommendations then fair point, as for those who are compliant, what else can you do but comply. The issue is of course what is compliant today may not constitute compliance tomorrow. I have heard of the importance of seeking Judicial Review when CRT refuse to license, this information should be blasted all over forums such as this. I appreciate the different characters I have met over the last 35 years boating and I don't want to see them ethnically cleansed which some of you are hinting at.Some of these boaters are vulnerable people with their boat giving them the last link with society, its ok to retire and buy the lifestyle as some have done and good luck to you,but thats only happened in the last few years and is far from the norm. Sadly as a group these retired boaters tend to shout the loudest.

It's not so much the retirees shouting the loudest, it's others not shouting at all.

It's not so much the retirees shouting the loudest, it's others not shouting at all. You know I don't take a cheap dig at yourself or Tsinca for being retired but rather the typical CWDF poster of whom we both have experience of. A certain Welshman that don't even own a boat for example.

As you say retiring to the cut , isn't the norm . It is also probably on the wain. The number of peolole retiring with lots of money, is about to decline radically . So the influx of young people to boating ( whatever the reason) should be seen as a good thing. Unfortunately Crt see people living on the canal, as an obstacle to their linear theme parc aims.
