Re the GUCCCo boats was it rust forming between the uxter plate and the flange then expanding and popping a rivet? I've no idea, . . it just had some blue clay and a cement box put round it to get it down to Colne Valley works to empty, and then it had a new tube welded in when it was back at Braunston.

I too have a Delph Marine boat, but it will be a different incarnation to yours as Dennis died after going bust, and in 1988 a new chap took over. Mine is the 2nd boat they built, the first being a boat called Maple. They then built a third boat called Maverick, and then proceeded to build for a hire fleet on the K & A. They then started to build the Delph Elf, a 30ft boat into which they managed to fit an Aquadrive. I gather most of their boats had Aquadrive as they did not have to worry too much about alignment. Getting back to the point, the rudder tube on mine is made of a very thick tube, and could even be scaffold tube, so it would have been galvanised. Mine is wide enough to take a steel flue brush, and has been painted for the last three blackings at least,and was mentioned in a survey 7 years ago, but hey, who knows. If it does leak, it would lose diesel, but would not cause a sinking.
