Very lucky escape.
Defo. more smoke alarms needed!
Weve come near at home on two occasions and it definitely shakes you up.

This is the ceiling in the cupboard - light fitting removed, obviously. Actually since taking the pic, Ive sanded it down, black came off fairly easily and I think it was more burnt clothes and or varnish, than burnt wood. A lick of varnish and you’ll hardly see it!

So fortunate that you were on board. Rog Definitely! And with a Jeff waking up first, it begs the question at what point would I have woken up. I sleep like a log. He used to need a lot of sleeping pills etc but is now sleeping adequately pill-free. Which is a good thing - now in more than one way!

The confined space is what I guess saved the day.
It could so easily have erupted into a nasty fire when the door was opened.

Glad you're both ok,the 'what ifs' are frightening. On a lighter note...you must have really shocked those Orthodox Jews. They did scuttle off quickly! First load of washing of Jeff’s clothes done and dried. Seems to have got the horrible smell out. Probably another 2 or 3 loads to go (he has a lot of clothes!). getting rid of the smell from even a little fire seems to take forever. Glad to hear you were both ok ........ accidents like that come with age ..... they are called "craft" moments ...(can't remember a f***ing thing)

That could have been nasty. I'm glad you're both ok.
I have some cupboard doors that line up with halogen lights when they're open, I've always been nervous of that but frankly LED lights are crap.

I put some GU10 warm white LED modules in to replace halogen down lighters. They are 3.6w I think with about 20 smd LEDs. Not expensive. They seem OK but I do objectto the brightness so i covered them all with frosted jellymould glass covers from horsebox lamps. Sorted.
More economcal and cooler than halogens.

I have led lighting throughout the boat. Warm white, so not harsh. They are coming up for 9 years old, and I can't fault them. Cannibalised IKEA.

I think I will make sure it's clear. Only halogens we have at home are in the Neff cooker hood and they get bloody hot, surprisingly so for their diminutive size. All the lights in the caravan are LED's.
