Good point though, it could read like working for CRT was scraping the barrel job-wise which may be the truth but does it need saying to get elected? I doubt it would help and it might hinder, not that most people really read/ believe what they read. I realise you're trying to demonstrate the breadth of your experience, there must be another way of saying it that can only be read that way?
Any kind of politics is a game unfortunately where the most suitable candidates usually lose out to the most slippery tongued.

I wouldn't touch him with a bargepole. That’s lucky, because touching kris with a barge pole would be common assault. Not so common these days, I understand a knife is today's weapon of choice.

Here's my tuppenny's worth. If it seems less like you, then apologies.
****************************
Hello, my name is Kris Nadin. I live aboard an eighty-six old ex-working boat that I am patiently restoring. I've lived on the water and made a living from various aspects of marine activities for over xxx years. Among some of my roles, I have operated as a skipper of a tug-boat servicing maintenance contracts, a commercial fisherman, and crewed on yachts in many different areas of the world. I have even worked for Canal and River Trust before now as a xxxx!
These different roles have given me an excellent perspective of the commercial and recreational demands placed on the waterways by a broad spectrum of users, and I strongly feel that I have a keen sense of how best to manage these varying demands sensitively.
Boaters' interests and needs are not adequately represented or met. Among the issues that require immediate focus are the increasing removal of facilities and the failure to manage the remaining ones professionally, the continued lack of routine maintenance of essential infrastructure, and the progressive sale of public assets to the private sector.
I am particularly concerned that the needs of elderly, disadvantaged and vulnerable boaters are not dealt with adequately or fairly.
I would like to see the continuation of the waterways as a navigable network open to all and would work to make sure that our generation is not the one that witnesses the demise of a publicly owned and valuable asset.

Just wondering if it would be more interesting to say “Liverpool short boat” or whatever it is, rather than “ex working boat” which is somewhat generic. The rest of it I think is fine, just a bit of spelling and grammar to tweak.

I was going to suggest the same thing. Gives a bit of identity to it and helps show commitment as its quite a big boat.

I don't think it would put off narrowboaters at all-as many of us have a genuine interest in all aspects of canal history. What could put narrowboaters off, would be super sized widebeams plonked onto narrow canals in awkward spots & that isn't you !

Might also alienante narrowboat owners as there seems to be a bit of anti widebeam sentiment at the moment. Possibly I suppose, but I think there is a big difference between a huge ugly slab sided floating cottage thing (modern fat boat), vs your boat. Don’t forget there is also a fair bit of “anti” against the ”red-hankied job-in-the-city with a pristine historic boat to show my superiority” types. Anyway half of them won’t know what a Liverpool short boat is! They will be asking you “just how short is your boat?”, which I suppose makes a change from “how long is your boat mister?”

But hey ho.

Adding the job title like Nemesis version
"I have even worked for Canal and River Trust before now as a xxxx!" Does personify it.
It takes away the bad point and makes it sound much better

The XXX thing is 'complete as appropriate', since Kris alone has the details.
