Not sleeping very well at the moment and got round to just wondering. Also wondering if I can add a poll 🤠As someone who's only hired so far I'm genuinely interested. Please feel free to add other options I haven't covered.

Too many questions! Feel free to ask away 🙂, me personally, narrowboat all the way altho I do miss the room of a widebeam if anyone visits. So where & how often have you hired? Plans to own or live aboard in the future? Its normally quiet at night on here but the rabble do wake up and join in about 7 ish.

We've taken advantage of the Tesco clubcard offers and hired with Viking Afloat. We did the Llangollen (got a thorough telling off when we tried to pop down the Montgomery - oops!) Sorry can't remember all the places we set off from but one took us to Chester and another we went to Coventry. Oh and another was from somewhere near Stoke on Trent that took us up the Macclesfield Canal.

One thing we've definitely learned is that you don't go by hire boat numbers if you want space to store your clothes! 10-12 means 8 comfortably for a week 🙂

As for plans to live aboard - hubby dearly wants to. I've adored our holidays but feel that such a huge step needs a lot more investigation, particularly where electrics are concerned. I like my gadgets and TV.

14 weeks/year onboard for us, 15 this year - my holiday allowance. Plus a day and half at Easter when I nip over to turn the engine.
Going round the whole country slowly, plans go up to 2022/23, last idea being to go down the Trent and up to Sheffield. Via Bristol, Reading, London, Stort-Lea, Grand Union, Nene, Fenland.

I'd love your holiday allowance Mr Fox - I get 5 weeks per year plus Bank Holidays and thought I was lucky;

I wasnt aware of clubcard offers...where do you see those? They happened for us a while ago. Since then we've had financial constraints that haven't made boating possible. It seems ABC are offering boating via Tesco nowadays

Sorry should have made it clearer - the hire holidays happened in the late 00s - we adored them but have had children and other challenges since then. Only now thinking maybe we can enjoy that again.

I owned a boat for a few years..loved every minute but then started renovating Horror House which drank cash faster than any boat and sadly boat had to go to finance money pit. I was struggling to cope solo, promised help with going out kept being cancelled as little sis didn't really like boating. It all got very overwhelming with house renovation eating all my time. Letting go of boat saddest thing in the world and I would love to go back, get a small fix buy going on board Marks NB Ellis yearly..not enough but has to do for now. I have simmering plans but not formed enough to act on them so about to set off and travel for few months. I'll still keep in touch on here as and when I can. This time away will give me chance to maybe see what is for the best. I like my cottage..sold Horror House and relocated to 'civilisation sort of'..it'll do for now and family members are moving in whilst I'm away so there is someone who needs to live there. I don't feel tied to bricks n mortar ..I like to roam.

But we earn all that time off by driving on roads like this:
