Apparently it's a glass flake epoxy which is forecast to last 25 years. So the comment about it being continuously painted is no longer valid. You just had to google it i bet ha ha It's part of my SIS CPD to have up to date knowledge around paint protection coating systems.

You do like challenges Wayne.
All power to your elbows, doing your own welding? Mig above water line saves a lot of time as you know but do weld the inside too. Any radical cabin shapes?
Bob Fell on the Spanish Ice cream boat built his butty on a new catamaran steel hull with an all Buffalo board cabin last year, its standing up very well to their manic cruising. Tows it on cross straps. Gave up with the towball system, too rigid. He will be at Audlem with it at weekend.

I have a half decent Tig/stick rig that will do the job but think i will buy another Mig. i have one but not enough umph in it as being 110amp. Ooo chance to buy another welder I like Tug style NB`s but not enough cabin space to loose for that. I think i will use half the front canopy as new cabin space. Curved cabin sides to bow/gunnel if you know what i mean and encase the rear deck instead or rail with wooden seating all around the top. first design anyway.

Curving in the cabin sides on the gunwale whilst maintaining tumblehome is a 3 dimensional curve, some shell builders managed it but its not easy.
How about a short tug deck to get you back to the straight on the gunwale?
Rising cabin side at the stern? To a trad rear deck? Large rear hatch with a smaller one on the top to be easier to open from inside? Fun getting the roof curved sheets to go up with the cabin side rise.
Solid handrail with finger grip bar on the inside?
You can tell that I have itched to do exactly what you are starting, I will watch with great interest.
Sam.

My ideas in pics. rear deck enclosed front deck as what i would of liked but a bit longer, but not big enough boat. I did think about the rear deck being like that, say a reverse Tug style. Front a bit like this

I went round so many Marinas looking at boats for ideas... It was a lovely time in my life, choosing what colour to paint her took weeks of research... I knew some of what I wanted on my boat and this amazing guy helped with lots of advice.

'The window breaker' indeed. The ultimate with these boats though is 'topping and tailing'. It goes something like this:
Recklessly steer into a boat moored on the offside of a terminus, taking out a window. Next: panic, full reverse on the 42hp engine, build up a bit of steam before crash! as the boat careers into the stone banking opposite. In order to achieve a 'top and tail' it helps if the banking opposite is only a few inches high thereby eliminating the rear fender. Result? not only do you get a bill to replace a window, but the rudder ends up jammed underneath the counter.
My old day hire boat was one of these.

If you have a desire to do something like that, you have to bite the bullet and jump in
If you are not careful you will find life has kept you running on the hamster wheel and you are suddenly too old to do it.

I remember them from years ago and when they built houses opposite the yard had a big sign up something like "IF YOU DON'T LIKE WORKING BOATYARDS DO NOT BUY A HOUSE HERE AND THEN COMPLAIN ABOUT THE WORKING BOATYARD". I really liked that sign. Trad stern is better for living on I reckon. I never really liked the style of the Harborough boats although there are worse about its not one of my favourites at all.

Yes, the hire boats are once again operating from Weedon.
I always fancied a cruiser stern ... room for the dogs and outside living etc. also easy access to the engine and business end of the boat.
But we fell in love with our trad stern ... somehow we all managed on the rear deck ... dogs and us ... and when it's rainy and I have to do a service it always makes me smile.
Of course my mate has a cruiser stern with a pram hood ... we've sat out on his 'patio' in the rain getting tiddly more than once so life is full of compromise.

I like our cruiser stern, loads of room, nice when we cruise to be able to spread out and not feel on top of each other, but I do fancy a semi trad in the winter.
Not sure I would ever fancy a trad..

Which is one reason we went to Senja, and one reason we got our narrowboat, and one reason I am trying to whittle down my/our launch day for the Pennine Way (from South to North) (it's more exciting like that). One day you will wake up dead, and you won't even know it. The length of the cruiser arse-end on that boat is ridiculous - how the heck are you supposed to be able to stretch out an arm and reach your whisky glass on the sliding hatch?
