Hi Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the stern Gear stuffing box whilst in the water and if so how easy/difficult is it. The reason is that one of the bolts sheared off and I either need to drill it out or buy a new one (option one is best as a new one is about £175) Thanks

I believe the answer is theoretically, yes .. but ...
As you probably know, the plate on the front is compressing the packing which, with the grease, keeps the water out. When renewing the packing it's inevitable that some water gets in, but that's a relatively swift job and you can cater for the ingress. Your job will be a bit longer, need a steady hand and not being distracted by water coming in.
Can you release the front plate, turn it 90 degrees, jam it in back position with a couple of lengths of wood against a frame and then access the bolt?

Yes surely you can deal with the pesky stud without having to remove the front plate completely. And to be honest, if you give it a good greasing I doubt the packing would be pushed out even if the plate was removed. You can try it anyway, before committing. Inadvisable to do 1/2 a job and then disappear for lunch etc, just in case...

Yes I think that is possible The problem is the limited space between the gearbox and stern gland to get a drill in.

We were out last month on the Nene/Ouse and remember hitting something under water. I was doing a standard service yesterday and noticed that the right hand bolt had sheared off. In other words I wasnt tightening it. I spoke with RCR yesterday but the lady said bolts aren't covered due to wear and tear but I am going to try and speak to someone else tomorrow as in my mind, though it might be wishful thinking, I think it is covered as damage and I can't really have the engine turning as it may damage the shaft.

I have a photo but never worked out how to load one on here 🤔 Go to imgbb.com and register with the site. Upload the image to it. Having done so, right-click the uploaded image and select 'copy image address'. The post it to the forum using the 'insert image' icon where you once more right-click and then 'paste'. Its easier to do than explain how to do it.
