There are no 'socialist countries' and 'Communism' is a myth. The world runs on Capitalism, always has, always will. Capitalism - the fear of losing everything and being homeless and hungry and ill - is what makes people get out of theirs beds of a morning and go to work. There is a 'socialist cushion' in some countries so that some scrape by with a free pass. Hmmn...
A few of the countries not congratulating Biden yet...
North Korea's Kim Jong-un
Russia's Vladimir Putin
Saudi Arabia's rulers
China's Xi Jinping
Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan
Brazil's Jair Bolsonaro
Hungary's Viktor Orban
Says quite a lot about capitalism and democracy in my opinion.
All of those countries run with the capitalist mechanism - survival of the fittest. I think the one to watch in that list is Russia - it will become a rising star. Dominic Cummings still hasn't explained his rΓ΄le here, having lived in Russia for five years. China will become an overpopulated spent match, Saudis run out of oil and tossed to one side, Russia will still have natural gas and oil reserves, almost unlimited mineral reserves, and once they've had the vodka bottle removed, a nation of ruthless, ambitious and proud Russians. Hungary - hah! Russian tanks in there straight away. Although the Hungarians have done us all a favour by keeping the immigrants out of Europe. Brazil? A pushover. One nuke on Rio de Janeiro and it's all over. Release the beef and emeralds, to hell with the rainforest! The Chinese share a border with Russia. OK, they have Mongolia as a cushion - but there's a railway straight to Beijing from Siberia! It would be interesting to nip 1,000 years into the future and see what happened.

An alternative view to Foxy's last post... In the old days before the internet you only got to hear what's going on through the papers, then radio, then TV. If you wanted to research anything you had to go to a library. All one way media. The internet has given us a two way media and a library as big as the world. Now it's becoming more and more filled with crap. Has it become more a threat than a service? You can ignore all the crap - the Internet is great if you want to study - anything, really.

Trust me on this if nothing else ... people have always discussed, debated, argued, fought, disagreed and ranted ... modern technology did not invent these things. Technology merely permits a fool in Finland to do any or all of the above, with a fool in South Yorkshire ... oh and with a wider audience Rog

I don't like people or big corporations telling me what I should be studying. It's your life - don't waste it. FRODO I wish the ring had never come to me...I wish none of this had happened. GANDALF So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us

Only a fool would suggest otherwise.

We've all got our faults Rog...well except Nick... π Old age seems to bring the subtle nick out. Old age also brings out quivering hands and camera shake. Buy a tripod. Bleeding 'eck, there are enough on Ebay.

I do recall dogless saying something to me a few moths ago in the lines of "You do realise he's a comedian, naughtyfox?"
So... here's more of Johnathon Pie, relevant to this thread topic:

It's a bit boring so I'm like "how about a beautiful woman talking about sex?"
And yeah yeah yeah it's not rude at all and she is like SO well spoken isn't it.
