Yes there's a widely publicized outage of Google on Tuesday. I had an issue with Gmail but not a problem as I also have Outlook I've always had 2 email accounts, as it's possible I thought it made sense. Thinking about it I have 3 email accounts as does Chris Phil I counted up and for some reason I have 9 email accounts..some my kids set up, then a counsellor, then a shop when I brought a computer I use 2/3 of them...I guess the others have quietly filled up with all those rubbish emails and some specific to who ever set them up Have no idea as to passwords..they are probably in that scrappy notebook that stores passwords... Maybe if I get really fed up one day I could check....or perhaps I'll watch paint dry or read all Foxys posts......... Stick to watching paint dry Phil

Hi, again, sorry, it's another query. Starting of with a major moan about Three, I think they have had problems alll day, after messing about, I managed to get a patch on my tablet which has not been any use for two months. It s now working. After messing about with every sim I own,. I managed to get them all back in to respective devices, and while doing one sim on my mi fi, all my other devices, except the phone, sprang in to life. So now the only thing not working is the phone. I paid £60 for the phone, it has been OK for two years. So I used the Three chat to try to get a replacement, well I have a rolling contract which is £20 per month, so I asked for a phone, they have loads of fancy things at £60, per month! not sure why people want see omething very little better for a hundred pounds a month do people really spend that much, anyway, I kept saying, I just want a phone, and unlocked. The girl is obviously not trained for people like me, she kept talking about pay as you go. I know nothing of this. I have a faulty phone and I want a replacement. Is that pay as you GO? My contract rolling contract just keeps rolling, at £20 pcm (unlimited Internet and calls), so I am not going to move to one at £30 or even more. So, do I order a phone, and replace the sim... Does it come with a sim, and hope it works?

You currently have a contract, it seems, i.e. the payments go out of your bank monthly without any action. Pay as You Go requires you to top up the account regularly to pay for usage, the main advantage being you don't have to if you don't want to. However it will eventually stop working if you don't. She may have been telling you that some of their cheaper phones are available with the PAYG option. Having looked at Three's site that seems possible, but the choices sub-£100 are not great.
What sort of phone do you have, and if it's not a daft question what's it not doing?
.. and at the risk of pissing you off, is it in Airplane mode perchance?

If you are not in a binding contract, and it sounds like it, it may be advantageous to keep things that way by buying a handset, perhaps one intended for pay and go because if you accept a free handset you will also be accepting a new and binding contract.
Edit: they may be going on about pay and go handsets because you said you maybe want a new one but you are in a binding contract and you can't as yet have a free replacement - so buying a payandgo handset is one relatively economic solution. Another is to scour Ebay for a keen deal.
Personally I'd call them and say you intend to move to another network and can you have a PAC number to take your existing phone number to another network. If you are in a binding contract they'll tell you so. If not they will make you an offer(s) to stay. Tip: write down the details of all the offers before rejecting them all - they'll probably then make you a better offer. You know you are at the end when they give you the PAC number (which you don't actually have to use). Then think about it for a day.
Your aim is to get something like unlimited everything for £20.00 / month discounted by half for at least 6 months, although this will probably mean you will agree to a 24 month contract and you buy another phone yourself.
At the same time look around for other network offers. Remember the most important thing is the package and the line rental cost, not the tempting handset offered.

It's a mi thing, they sell them on three, called xiomi red something now. It s not in any mode, it was working last night, I put it on charge and now it won't go 'live' it did this a week ago, and miraculously came back to life overnight. I have been poking the pin down every orifice and probable done some damage, also the sim has fallen on the floor a few times, not to mention being forced in to a the sim card holder with fingers. I started of with help from chat but it did not behave as predicted, then the next day it did! It s not turning on at the moment, as in, dead, no lights, nothing at all. What I think, is that the phone, Which I bought from Three two years ago was a payg phone, and the top up is this monthly £20, is that the case? PS if it is the case, then all I have to do is put the sim into new phone, I assume it will then link to the contract, in that no one at Three knows which phone is being used. PPS you say sub £100are not much use, but Idon't understand this,my phone does GPS and takes Photos and if the thing is set up correctly it connects to the Internet. I'm not sure what more is required of a phone. Slightly better camera, but I DON'T use the camera, and I can listen to the radio as well

I am on a contract with 3 and have found them pretty good. When my contract phone (with 4 months left)decided to take a dip in the canal, I went to the local very covid protected shop and asked about another phone. The assistant told me how much it would cost for an early upgrade, £98.60, but gave me a replacement SIM and suggested I may be better off paying my monthly charge to the end, which is less than half of the £98.60 and using my new SIM in my old phone, or buying a new one and reverting to a SIM only contract in 4 months. Was well pleased with the constructive advice, bought a better phone off Amazon for £65, so in the long term better off than a contract phone.

The camera has proved useful. GPS is sometimes useful. Everything else is a load of old bollocks.

I don.t get this at all, why would they sell contracts with sub standard phones, it makes no sense. I get the impression each shop and staff are competing to be the best, so the advice they give is excellent, and they share expertise. when I went to Three chat, which is 'supposed' to be a 'shop', the advice was confusing, as I made it clear that what I wanted was a new phone, I never mentioned I wanted a new contract, it took a long time to get this message over. In spite of saying I wanted to pay £60 for a phone I was offered a contract which included a phone and other stuff, all at outrageous cost. I was not asked what I wanted, or needed, as would have been the method in a real shop. The girl was trying to sell something, anything. In the end she told me there were only two phones under £100, which was not my budget, also, on the website there were more than two phones. I just said, OK, I'll get one somewhere else. Unfortunately there are no Three shops nearby, and I need to get sorted fairly soon. It's just not worth going to a bricks and mortar Three shop just for a handset.

Because: - The're all on commission and would sell their own granny to meet the sales target. Also, some items are being pushed more than others because the network says so. Its got nothing to do with what works for you.
- Its always better to get sorted online now. The high street is dying.
- What is 'best' is a very subjective question. Ask anybody why something they don't like is rubbish. I guarantee you'll get some spurious replies.

"Everything else is a load of old bollocks." - what about the alarm clock? I also find the voice recorder really useful. And the torch on occasion. Words alone cannot express the depth of emotion I experience knowing that your opinion differs.

Slightly better camera, but I DON'T use the camera, and I can listen to the radio as well Ref the PAYG question - if you pay by Direct Debit, it's probably a Contract, if you have to buy tokens or similar and tap in codes it's PAYG. Respectfully, you would have had to arrange one or the other when you first got the phone, so should know. If you phone 3, they will try to sell you a phone with a new network agreement as that's where they (the company and the sales person) make their money. If you search around for phones only you may find a deal that suits you. Ref the phone prices - cheap phones are prone to not last very long - two years sounds about right - are unlikely to have the latest operating system and possibly not be capable of being upgraded. I tend to stick to either Samsung or Motorola, all of which have lasted at least 5 years, at least the ones I haven't lost or dropped into the cut do. Ref the usefulness of Apps, each to their own, but I find Google Maps, online banking, various social media Apps, Spotify, BBC News, Email, Photo storage, remote access to my businesses security cameras, access to my French road toll account, campsite finders, train ticket booking, weather reports, paying for parking and of course Track and Trace very useful - and they are best supported on a reliable phone running the latest operating system, and capable of being upgraded.

There are at least two "networks" where you pay monthly but are not contract. GiffGaff owned by O2 and Smarty owned by 3. Both offer reasonable unlimited deals without being tied to any contract.
I found years ago it was cheaper to buy a used phone from eBay and get a SIM only deal with no contract.

OK, another morning on Three chat, Apparently I am on a sim only contract that runs for a very long time. I know nothing of this. 1 I can't get anything sent here as its not my registered address 2 I can find out my secret code unless I can get on to My 3 3 My 3 won't let me access them,at this time, this is where the secret code is stored 4 to get my phone fixed I need to call them! I am going to look on ebay or amazon and get an unlocked phone, is that correct thing to do?

Given your connectivity issues this may not be all that great a suggestion but...I bought a brand-new twin-sim 4g unlocked phone for only £40 on t'web. I very much doubt you'll get a deal like that in a high street shop. But you should be able to buy some kind of unlocked phone easily enough. However your sim may not be active...ask the network... SIM is active. There is phone on amazon which is harfury 4g unlocked it has dual SIM it's £64.99 which sounds OK. I just want a phone, Internet would be nice
