the number of road tankers loading veg oil and heading to Rotherham is ridiculous I think that the best we can probably hope for is that the prat in overall charge of this world-class bog-up gets runover by one of them !

The farce continues. The cofferdam is in place, and the word on the cut is that there's nothing wrong with the culvert, it's just the bank. The pilings across the canal to form the cofferdam were set too low. Therefore when CRT tried to bring the canal up to the normal levels while work continued on the breech site, water was topping the pilings and flooding the site. Therefore the levels are now back down on the Goole side of the cofferdam. We are now back on the bottom. The breech occurred on the 20th December, we are now into March and no end in site. The incompetence will probably continue into April. We can't find out who the head engineer is but I assume it's an out of work circus clown due to the pandemic and has found some work at the CRT. To quote todays stoppage notice update- 'It will take several months for the repair programme to complete '

To quote todays stoppage notice update- 'It will take several months for the repair programme to complete ' The repair will take just as long as it needs to take for Exol at Rotherham, and the customers for the sea-dredged sand from Hull, to make the decision to permanently abandon water transport in favour of road haulage. C&RT, despite all the lies and bullshit about supporting waterborne freight, are wholly committed to the complete and final destruction of commercial traffic on every one of the waterways under their control.

narrowboatworld.com/12944-several-months-to-repair-aire-calder-breachI have to admit, that despite TRYING to see the positive in CRT - having spotted the notice sent out today myself earlier (and breathing an exasperating sigh at HOW long it is taking to do bugger all), I'm probably in agreement with Tom Crossley. THING is, When covid is under control and the world has been vaccinated, WHAT it is the NEXT excuse going to be???

I suspect another reason for delaying repair is to push costs into the 2021/22 financial year.
This is one of 61 closures today according to CRT's stoppage database.

When we were carrying the then chief engineer for bwb told us once that without boats he could run a great canal and as Lionel Munk said at the Lymm rally that Leopards can’t change their spots.

The farcical incompetence continues. Almost three months (Dec 20th) since the breach started as a trickle., and the cofferdam is still filling. Pictures courtesy of Mark Penn, Drone Pilot.

They have now been trying to de-water the cofferdam for a month. They have said they are going to try again next week, and then there's the fish to rescue again.
