And I'm like "is this boat sea worthy?" The boat is most sea-worthy. In fact the Wayfarer has a round-Britain record of just 18 days. But, as with all dinghies, capsize is always a possibility. However the Wayfarer is a favourite with sailing schools because of its excellent stability. I am keen on doing a capsize drill though - just so you know what to do...

We had a swimming pool in our garden when I was a kid and after that a house by the Thames. I do know how to swim but probably a slightly similar story as I had a very nasty kayak capsize incident with a dodgy spraydeck which took a long time to detach. I was about 15 at the time. Under Kingston railway bridge on the Thames. Using the paddle as a sail, gust of wind etc.
Not nice really and put me off drowning for a long time.
31 years later and maybe it's time to face the demons.
Not in a kayak with a spray deck though.

I'm happy with a capsize drill but I don't want you panicking I was trained by my SIS handlers to avoid people who are panicking in the water. You have to wait until they have incapacitated themselves and are almost dead before attempting to help them or they will stand on your head and you will die. I feel it is important to share this CPD training with you at this point.

I'm not keen on drowning either. Its actually fairly hard to get your head underwater when wearing a PFD. But not panicking when you are in the soup is a good thing.
However the only times I've been for a swim is when acting as the crew on a safety rib. We won't go out on the first day if the wind is anything more than F4.

F4-5 is actually great but not ideal for a virgin sail.
Here's the reality of just how non-scary a capsize recovery can be. It looks like these guys have had the safety briefing

No it's got a couple of quite light lithium batteries. I don't think I should bring it along as it complicates things somewhat. I was mainly doing a joke around your "no smoke and noise" comment. Throw the rag away and mount a wind genny atop the stick. Direct drive. Job sorted. No smoke, no noise, no phaph.
