The defining moment for me was blowing into a breathalyser and being slightly over the limit. During my 10 month ban I cut down to normal levels. g. A 10 month ban for being 'slightly' over the limit?

I really enjoy drinking. Drink way more than the gov guidance but I don’t care. I also eat more than I should, and eat to much red meat. I ride and drive to fast. No intention of changing my ways unless it effects my health or wellbeing.

I have cut right back over the last few years, 4-5 pints a night, every night with more at weekends was the norm. Two years ago it was a couple every night somehow it shifted to 2-3 a week but only drink at weekends and now I go for a couple of weeks without a drink. On the occasions I do have more than a couple I really do feel crap the next day. There are days when I really want a beer but I remind myself how much weight I will put back on and how crap I will feel the next day if I have a few and somehow the want goes away. Do you find that the temptation to have a beer lessens as time goes by? Problem is, I'm not very good at not doing things that I feel like doing. Cutting it in half has been absolutely fine, I'm not beating myself up at all. I'm hoping that might also be the case if I more or less stop completely. You know, a feeling that I really don't want to drink. 'just having a go' never works for me. I need to decide something for sure, then do it. Yes it does get easier. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and do it. I used to have a substance problem and after a heart scare I stopped overnight. That wasn't easy but the thought that I might die if I carried on helped somewhat😱

I've never been much good with sticks, even if a beautiful woman is holding one.

That wasn't easy but the thought that I might die if I carried on helped somewhat😱 The one time I did stop my daily drinking was after a botched tooth extraction caused massive blood loss. It just wouldn't clot. I got it into my head that liver damage had caused a lack of blood clotting. So I just stopped drinking. Shortly after I had severe pneumonia and asked the quack for the blood test results about the liver he said it looked fine. So I started drinking again! The most difficult bit about it for me is that I do daily beer acquisition and it is quite the little routine. Almost like a little adventure with a "positive" outcome. I don't usually store excess alcohol on board. I could really do with knocking it on the head but not easy. I consume 12-18 units per day every day so while I can always stand up and never get into any trouble I definitely have got a drink problem

Perhaps instead of trying to be a dick, if you don't know how it works, you could ask nicely. The legal limit is 35, they don't prosecute under 40. I blew 43.

I like to follow stray dogs round Bideford and sniff their arses. Every man needs a hobby.

These days I hardly ever have a drink, Noreen's meds rule it out for her so it being a social thing I don't bother. Sat out in the evening sun I do fancy a glass of red. In the past for a year or two we have gone through the drink every night scenario, not to excess but it was a habit. I've helped son in law get over a serious alco problem, it's a bad drug when it gets a grip of you. There seems to be something genetic going on, while others can drink like fish, no hangover etc, I soon end up with The Never Agains, dog rough and sick for a day after. My Dad was the same, yet SiL's Dad ran a pub and drank, Grandson can drink too.

But you did say 12 months is the minimum ban, so was your 10 month ban because you were only slightly over the limit and the magistrate decided to award you less? They can't award any less. For a first time offence they must disqualify for 12 months minimum. They originally gave me a 14 month ban which I was able to get reduced by 25% on completion of the alcohol awareness course. A 3 day course. I made a big mistake and I paid and accepted the price of that. I've learned and it has had a positive effect on my life, strangly it did not affect my insurance too much.

Used to drink to get drunk - that was the point. But I simply got bored with it, and be honest, the older you get the less well you can tolerate a hangover. Boring though it may be I mostly prefer tea these days. I'm not tee-total though, on a hot day a cold beer hits the spot.

I actually think I am allergic to certain wines, red particularly, though not consistently, and as my tummy is pretty sensitive these days, I have cut back to something near recommendations, but I've never tried a regime of no alcohol, as I think I'd likely fail. The lock down meant I indulged in plenty of food and drink, so I'm trying to stick to healthy foods, generally less calories from any source. Smallish glasses for beer, wine and spirits.
