On the other hand NHS staff on over 50k can get it put into pension for little or no tax or NI cost. As can anyone on any income, your point? I suppose the higher earners will make better tax savings. Irrelevant but hey. And yes they could. Maybe someone should let them know they could keep all of it and pay less tax and NI too. Although they won't be able to spend it yet.

This country has gone tits up Well yes, but you are only on minimum wage because you didn’t pay attention at school and started your working life with no relevant qualifications. The general idea of the £500 bonus was to reflect the “above and beyond the call of duty” efforts of some NHS workers. Of course some other NHS workers did nothing special during the pandemic, but things get sticky when you try to divide the NHS workforce into the worthy and unworthy. And if the country has gone tits up, at least there will be easy access to milk.

Others, albeit probably a smaller group, paid good attention at school. They then followed due process, got a well paid job, responsibility, that type of stuff. But then over time, they realised that pretending to get on with people they couldn't stand, fitting in with a company ethos/ culture and all the other bollocks required to 'get on' wasn't worth it. They realised that life was much better with less money, but more freedom to actually be themselves.
