I suspect most will not have one to display.amd will have no requirement to purchase one.
If they are used on waters under crts jurisdiction then they need to be liscenced and insured and show a number. A lot get round this by joining the British canoe union which covers them for insurance and liscence. But they are still supposed to show a number in case of accident etc.when there where just a few I suppose it doesn’t matter. But now they have bred and they are everywhere in big herds, it’s only a matter of time before there is an accident.

Yes I was infering to the BCU.
How does the law say they should display this number, I bet it doesn't.
They will more likely have their membership cards on them.

You might be right. I’m not anti human powered small vessels on the water but some accountability for accidents should be required.
What about blow up canoes, or even rigid ones, going through tunnels? I went through a tunnel today behind a boater, I knew he was there cos I followed him in, but all I could see was a profile against the light at the end of the tunnel. I could not be sure how far I was behind him. I was lit up like a Xmas tree, tunnel light to roof, side lights and a light illuminating my transom! Do rowing boats have a number, never noticed, waited for an eight to raise oars when there was not much room, but they just kept going, I cant swerve round them, I guess they know that.
