What a week it has been with one thing and another. I have been putting nits of money away every month towards a new canopy. Nit chap at all with the average being £1500 to have one made. So as this is a project and why break the habit of a life time hey. I am going to have a go at making my own To do this I need to move the boat horizontal along the drive so i have put the car in the pound along with the dinghy mould. A job in itself to move everything about. Now I was going to get a Hiab in to lift it and drop it, but then i had thoughts why not just build a cradle for it and wheel it around......easy  The cradle/s can be reused later as the way i have made them i can cut one down on the width to use for the dinghy`s when i pop a few out and the other cut in half so then i van use it as trestle to hang the mould from when laying up. spit roast type cradle. This one of the cradles i knocked up this weekend, the other is in the process of being welded up but i am goosed now so early night to chill out. It is made from 50mm x 2.5mm box section, the castors are rated at 150kg each and each cradle has four fitted each corner. For the chine supports i made them hinged so they can get a good level. Then bolted on 18mm ply. Done but for a quick splash of paint. Ready to go under well one of them. While i was jacking the boat up to get the cradel under the boat started to move forward a bit, i got a little worried so i strapped the boat to the workshop wheer some time ago i had bolted a tow hitch to it for some reason i cant remember now. All good to go and we have the first cradle under. For now i have sat the cradle on blocks so as not all the weight is say on the castors. Besides that i have got the Propex HS2000 cab heater in situ and the water heater is on its way, should be here tomorrow, i have after all the faffing gone with a Propex Malaga 5E which will sit above the HS2000. Fitting the HS2000 vent In the end i decided to fit it here, reason is the pipe work here needs to be minimum 750mm long and if i sat it further back they would of been to short. Not a big deal but for loss of a little storage space. Vent is fitted but no sealed yet until all is good. So that this weekends work done. For those wondering why i need to move the boat out. Where it is sat at the minute i cant look around it and take pictures to help build/fit and design the canopy. During this week the second cradle will be made so next weekend it will hopefully be ready to move. Oh and the two will be bolted together with the help of two lengths of box section to hold all tight. I was going to make one big one but then it would not of been easy to get it under the boat.

Evening mate. As if you haven't enough to do you need one of these in your life! This is my mates Buckingham on the trailer for a bit of TLC. I had to make up a new lower strap after the original lost an argument with a wayward Fairline Carrera 24! I have serviced the leg as is easiest done while out the water. Those rudder attachments transform the low speed handling of an outboard powered boat - particularly when in neutral.

Well setup Outboards in sympathetic hands are ace, you can put the boat on a sixpence. Perfect steering in astern too 👍🚢⚓🍻

Yes, a nasty Johnson 9.9 four-stroke on a fairline 20, the single most useful addition was a rudder attachment - when it (frequently) broke down steering was maintained! My 6hp evinrude can have a strop if you drop the throttle too far - the ignition grounds out on a fully closed throttle, it's on a PVC 3.2m inflatable so the worst that happens with that is you bounce off something. No rudder attachment so it's more of a handful. We grew up wrestling with a seagull (no attachment) which was excellent training for outboard powered boat handling skills!

of course I'm not sympathetic to the bloody things ..... nor legs either ..... spawn of Satan I too will never have a boat with an egg whisk on the back, luckily for me twin engined Project or Seniors on shafts are rare as rocking horse shit, loads with Perkins on Enfield legs or Volvo petrol powerd installations - that little collection of nightmares mean the old single engine on a shaft E27 is going nowhere anytime soon 👍🚢⚓

Concur with that. I tried a rudder plate, I found it made life harder. It bent, didn't like 20 hosses. I now find a quick blast in the right direction as effective. What's not to like, fuel efficient, easy to work on, easy to clear the prop of miscellaneous bed springs, easy to swap if it does. No smelly NOXious diesel fumes in locks.

Naaah !!! give me a gurt big diesel, an old low revving design that will run on out as long as it's oily. Something that will keep running when the water is halfway up the flywheel or when bits have fallen off.

Easy to steal - both motor and fuel. Limited petrol availability on the waterside. Petrol is a Fire risk when handled by a Muppet. No gas fridge due to risk of explosion. Prone to accident damage, we had a new transom bracket on the motor Wayne has after getting cloberised by a Herbert Woods hire boat. Difficult to steer in the hands of a novice.

Hi kida, ows things good i hope Sorry for late reply, i have been busy trying to finish the cradle/s but not managed it as we are off up Ullswater this weekend ( yes T has managed to drag me away form the boat ) and i didnt buy enough box section. I think my tape measure is wrong or some thing. Also trying to find a sewing machine for making the canopy, christ its a sewing machine...if bloody only. Didn ttake me this long to get a new welding rig. Thanks for the thought on the rudder extension but i will see how it goes, the last one i had fitted to a Burland was not much cop. A bit longer than that one though, could of been the reason maybe, but then longer = better ? Oh and John, i got a Malaga 5E in the end which arrived the other day, so a ssoon as i get the boat moved that will be fitted...roughly. I will need to keep the window locked though as the vent is only 170mm from it as to the 300mm it says in the fitting instructions. Nice neat water heaetr though.

Thats the same width as what was on your motor, the original for yours is on the engine that replaced it. I had to make this one a bit taller for the 28a gearcase I used 6mm Ali all round - stiff as anything. This one got clobbered by another boat so it now has 50x6 stainless on the bottom, again, stiff as buggery! Enjoy your weekend in the lakes ⚓🚢👍
