I removed the canopy and painted it in the workshop as rain has been on and off, Good temps including over night and no dew point inside so managed that easy
, shame i can get the boat in the workshop. twp coats of primer and two topcoat.
You get the idea, it is white now, i have lost pictures some how, bit of a strange things i have lost them on my phone and laptop, last nogth my phone turned off and the laptop just turned off and i lost my screen saver and a few things....pictures aswell maybe.
Anyhow
When i measured up materials for the top screen frames i got it all wrong by 50% short. I thought the materials were cheap for them. I had to go back to get more hockey stick profile and now i had to reorder more Neoprene seal, should be here in a few days. I got on with what was needed to be done like clean the frames up and test one screen to see if the seals i have done work and they sealed a treat after a few down pours over night.
As you can see i have used plastic windows, easy to drill, fast speed and a slow feed, this way it softens the plastic and cuts easy with less chance of cracking. Also you can drill within MM of the edge
Neoprene i used is 30mmx1.5mm reason is that i had 1mm spare once the window sat in the frame, i stuck down a neoprene strip dwon and the frame as you can see and one on the window aperture, once the neoprene compresses down it gives a darn good seal.
Yes all frames are polished up to match the main windows, wish will need a quiclk going over again soon as i got paint and resin on them when i was faffing with the other jobs.
This is a quick look at the frames half fitted, infact this is before i removed them to polish and also make the other two.
I have been pulling my hair out, what there is anyhow, i am not the best at getting angles set nice, but i am chuffed with the screens after i sussed an idea to do that. Now the locker frames.....OMG these took me ages to do, thnk it was with the Z section and only having an angle grinder to cut them with, i was at points chucking my tools. All done though in the end
Sealed down with Sikaflex marine and SS screws.
The ally frame is Z profile 22x32x22....i think lol. I wanted less upright than the 32mm but unable to find any. I will add some hardwood strip or rubber to lift the lid level to the top edge.
By eck i have been busy, seeing now what i have done in a few days.
Bow rail, I had the help of T to do this, just not possible on my own. I used M8x50mm SS button heads to bolt them in with SS washers and nylocs. I have lost the pics of when i needed to trim the gunnel side as this was ruff cut from the mould and protruding below the strake which looked a mess.So they had to be fitted, marked and then removed, incase i caught the strake with the grinder when cutting back.
Strake took some bending but all went well and no creaking or cracks in the Sapele. Sealed around the bolt with Sikaflex Marine again.
Bow rial fitted to
, this had to be done as water was leaking in the bow with the drill hole i dod a few week back I forgot to cover them with gaffer.
You may well be thing about the gap in the strake on the bow point, it would of some doing to bend the strake around that, even with making a steamer, i did think of it but then i will be making a SS point to wrap around it with the bow roller to bolt down on.
Thats about it for now, From the list above of jobs before line out, well, all i want to do is fit the rails then i will start to line out while i am waiting for more neoprene to arrive so i can fit the screen windows. and then the canopy can go back on.
I mentioned i want to raise the height of the canopy, this is due to the screen frames being to close to the edge of the canopy, I wanted to use Z profile as with the ocker lids, as aid i couldnt find any small enough which would of looked ok.
I will get pics again when i fit the canopy and windows tomorrow but for now these are the grab handles i made while practicing my welding,
Last week when i started to do the screen windows i didnt like how the top of the screen was so close to the canopy, picky i know but its just me, well T says i am a faffer, but i have to like it.
What i did was make this frame from Sapele to lift the canopy 25mm, looks good and gives a nice bit of woodwork to the canopy from the inside, you cant see it much from the outside. A few brackets fro ally were made aswell to lnk them together, although no need for them really but it all helps........something.
They just sit on the screen top in between the screen and canopy.
This was the sketch of the locker and set out but it has changed a little as of a while ago. The locker will be a more diamond shape, no bollard and the fairleads will be now cleats for mooring up. In the locker there will be a large cleat to tie the anchor line to and a standard roller. more basic and less rope work.
Again i was hoping i had finished with grinding back, not now so i popped off to Machine Mart for some bits, Carbide grinding discs, great for getting back to the matting to laminate to, new goggles and dust decent dust mask, a few times i used the throw away masks but they are near useless on this job.
I marked out and 4 inch more the locker and ground back, also around the repair i did, this will beef up the repair more as in the firsst place i didnt do the best job for strength. This should do the trick now.
All done and once cleaned out ready for the layup. i will be keeping the foam in place but the rear side will be 18mm marine plywood for good strength for the anchor.
.
This is what come dust is...well not dust but more fibers. lot easier to clean up.
