Actually I agree with the concept of prisoners being used for tasks such as this, not just for the benefit of society but to give them some sense of purpose.

Nothing wrong with this in my eyes, use them i say.
In fact community service were responsible for putting up fences through nuneaton on teh canal, been there near 20 years now.
I did CS a long time ago, 80 hours, enjoyed some of it to be honest.

Have used the community service team at Skylight Circus, doing the grass and hedges. No problems with it myself.
I wonder if any are under the thumb of a master Crim. Scoping out boats.

CRT are just latching on to another gimmick that will fizzle out. There has to be a magic money tree somewhere to fund this, as I doubt the treasury will want to fund it. As an organisation, CRT is failing in every department, and these gimmicks prove just how fickle their commitment is.

I'm not convinced that a load of criminals wandering up and down towpaths in hi Viz is going to make life better by water.
What I am convinced about is that Raab has a bee in his bonnet about people living on boats and if he gets any sort of powers I suspect he might look at doing something fairly harsh.
Of course covering canals with criminals pulling shite out presumably with grappling irons and magnets is going to degrade the waterways for residents of boats, so it could be just the start.
Now where is my spliff?

I know it’s not new, they where getting volunteers to supervise them on L&L years ago. The gps tracking is new though.

That’s exactly it, people don’t seem to realise that it’s a gimmick, cart jumping on the bandwagon, looking for more money to squander. I have no problem with convicted persons doing community work. But the arse licking ways of carts management, leave a lot to be desired.
