not sure but in Andrews original post he said the calorifier didn't have facility for an immersion ..... if there isn't a boss already fitted for one with a blank in it, then it might be imperpossimable it is possible π± Two words Essex Flange

I must say I am assuming it doesn't have one. It's quite a small horizontal tank. I could be wrong about this. It's not accessible but I can dismantle to get to it. Good tip from Telemachus about it possibly being hidden under insulation. I didn't know this. Prodding around with a thin rod of some sort I guess is the answer. I hadn't picked that up from Telemachus about the boss being under the foam ...... good thought ..... never come across that

Is there a standard point where the immersion sits on them, side/top?
Never really looked at mine in much details, only know it has two coils.

I thought you could only do that if there was already a larger hole than the one you were adding.

Was going to suggest a new tank with heater in, then I looked at the prices...
Ouch!

If it doesn't have a boss already then I'll definitely go for the engine coolant heater unit and just put it into the engine circuit of the calorifier.
That should sort it subject to thermostat control.
Small boat calorifiers are not cheap and they do vary in quality. This one will be a good one so not worth disturbing it.

Just been looking at a video on how to instal an Essex flange and I was right ......
you use them to add an extra smaller drain point but you have to have an immersion boss already fitted to do it

If you can find a picture of the same make/model calorifier with an immersion, it will tell you where to look.

I would assume the top end if it was vertical as if it was on the side the element would be too long to fit in.
Interesting to investigate this.

Yes. I can't see how it would work in the side unless it was a very short stubby element in it.
I can visualise where it would be but never actually eyeballed this particular calorifier.
The vehicle preheater may be yet another red herring.

For what it's worth...folks like to see what they expect to see. Those preheat items are not new, they've been around for years. Just not on boats.
