DVLA have been a nightmare ever since the hoax Covid thing began. The bone-idle inbred sheep-shagging wankers who work there got furlough money so obviously they all preferred to sit at home on 80% pay watching daytime TV than doing any actual work. It took me six months to renew my HGV licence last year during which time I couldn't work and there are tens of thousands of truck drivers currently in the same boat. The main problem is that people in that part of South Wales have absolutely no work ethic whatsoever, if they did then their coal mines and steelworks wouldn't have closed. I don't necessarily agree with the 'hoax covid' comment but I do agree with the general sentiment of the above. Lots of corporations and large organisations I have dealt with since March 2020 seem to have found the ideal excuse for providing lousy customer service, this includes. HSBC (now sacked off), Green Flag, Redcar and Cleveland BC, our GP's surgery etc etc. They were pretty crap before March 2020 so nothing really changed, but now have a ready made excuse that they can just trot out as required particularly when you try to contact them. The reason for that is because large corporations are looking to take over everything. It won't be long before about 6 corporations run every service provision and product delivery system available. I've not read this opinion from anyone else it just seems logical. Consolidation. Covid is the perfect opportunity to knock out a lot of smaller businesses and pick up the customers. It's bound to happen. Nothing new really. Business consolidation has always made sense but with the rapid advance of automation it makes even more sense now. Where the humans stand in this whole picture is quite a technical question. I hope we just get paid to do whatever we want in future. Universal income. That would sort it out. Obvious problem being someone else wants the money ?

Anyway in terms of Christmas plans it has just been announced that the woman and children have had "negative" tests and can travel tomorrow.
And I was like "HOW COOL"
So after I drop them at the Eurostar terminal I can fuck off and disappear on the boat.
Obviously not able to reveal if this is the St Tropez boat or the Thames boat or that canal boat but it will be a boat and engine(s) will be running so should be okay.
Hell's teeth what an opportunity and just before the collapse of civilisation as we know it.
Got to be done really

If pubs and bars close down people won't stop drinking alcohol, they'll just get it from Tesco.

It's the home delivery thing that is dodgy because that will knock out the friendly Indian who sells the high abv polish lager because the other products he relies on selling and needs to price higher will be taken by home delivery supermarket setups.
I'm not sure if a beer shop selling just cheap beer would survive. Interesting to observe behaviour going forwards.

Jane says double twat ! Rog Jane is obviously a modern woman, smartphone welded to her hand. Wouldn't be seen dead welding an old beast like that, especially when she has someone expert with old tech, the brush and dustpan. Get her something modern, perhaps a i-Ron.

![](https://i.imgur.com/H2DRmy5.jpg) Got down to the boat last night, a merciful 425 miles with no traffic issues. Traffic seemed fairly light in fact, maybe Omicron has its uses! Trip to Waitrose today for festive shopping, although nothing for Christmas day as sister’s boyfriend is doing the dinner. Maybe take the boat out tomorrow, back 24th to go to mother’s for 25th. Hopefully my sister and Jeff can avoid war! Christmas Dex out of their boxes, boat looking quite festive…

There have certainly been some hotter story's about the dvla but I must say when we moved an dchanged the address on the V5 and licences we received the documents back within a week.
There is legislation that allows someone toro continue driving if their licence is being renewed and they have proof that the DVLA have received the application.
Not sure on it's status with HGV renewals though.

ah well my plans are now in abeyance
yesterday teatime started developing a sore throat .... did a flow test ..... negative.
that was my last one so thought I'd pop out this morning and get another pack ....
ha ha !!! ALL the chemists in Beverley are out of stock !!!
anyway positive or negative whatever it is, Covid, cold, flu (I have slight cough as well now) I can't and won't risk passing it on to my sister.
I will try and book a PCR test but they seem busy as well (probably by people who like me who can't get flow test kits)
I have called her and put Christmas on hold, hopefully by the 27th/28th I should be able to get some test kits
Bugger !!! I was looking forward to it !!!

No one at the dock got a LFT and willing to deliver? possibly, but the only one I have spoken to has only a couple (and they are a familly with a vulnerable member) so they need them more than me
a few days wait is not a problem, as I said, whatever it is I wouldn't travel and stay with my sister and risk passing on cold/flu, even pre Covid
