I guess that sums things up. Does anybody have another way of contacting him? I'd like to speak with him. Not to spread spite, you understand. Message him on here, he is obviously still looking in now and again.

I think from what naughtyfox said, the two year enforced break from the boat more or less decided them to walk away and a quick, clean break suited them. I'm sure he'd have been happy to get more money, but I suspect from what he said he was reasonably content to resolve the issue quickly, and move on. I wish him well in his new ventures, but haven't missed his take on covid and world government scam theories It'd be good to hear about his new travels if he chooses to share with us. Rog

I think from what naughtyfox said, the two year enforced break from the boat more or less decided them to walk away and a quick, clean break suited them. I'm sure he'd have been happy to get more money, but I suspect from what he said he was reasonably content to resolve the issue quickly, and move on. I think some have been stirring the pot a little too vigorously and making things up! I haven't claimed we were 'defrauded'... our boat was examined, the base plate found to be 'thin', which is possible considering the boat was built in 1986, and we had an offer from someone who could replace the base plate easily as they own a boatyard and have a crane/facilities, etc. - the boat will find a new owner and carry on with a new life. We had 6-7 years fun out of it. Posters on here who live in the UK don't seem to be able to grasp the lengthy journey we had to the boat from our home. 'Covid' effectively closed international borders, making travel difficult; our local airport closed 'due to Covid' - we used that often to get to Helsinki airport. It's otherwise an 8-hour car journey, or 5 hours by train (plus a drive to the nearest stations). Looking back, it was probably not a bad decision to have a go at selling our boat - back then in August, nobody knew the UK border would be 'open' (and even now we don't know if 'Covid restrictions' will be re-introduced). There's no point having a boat just sit in a marina gathering mooring fees, and we would have had to sell it at some time in the (nearish) future anyway. Now it's gone we don't need to pay for mooring / CRT licence / insurance / repairs-maintenance, etc. All done & dusted and we can get back to the plans we had in mind before buying the boat. As for the insinuations about me "losing my job" - well, what nonsense! Early retirement starts at age 61 here, and with my workplace having been transferred in August 2020 which involved a further drive there & back each day, I thought I'd opt out and spend more time enjoying life, and indeed it has been nice not to have to be a slave to the early morning alarm clock, and all the responsibility my work involved. I could have left last October, but didn't get round to applying until after Christmas - retirement first day of April. Out with no 'scratches', no accidents, no complaints. And gradually working out what trips to make now that we are both free - off to the UK in June for a couple of weeks, and a week in Helsinki in July looking after my granddaughter (11 years old) whilst my daughter is in Barcelona & Porto. We can always rent a boat if we fancy a bit of 'contact sport' on the canals... but most of our trip ideas seem to revolve around walking/camping, travelling by train, cycle touring, and driving around with a rental car. We've stacked up with firewood for the next 3-4 winters, and been sorting the garden out now that the snow has gone, so all that's left is for us is to conjure up ideas for trips - and looks like one to Norway in our neighbour's camper van is on the cards, had a drive round our village with him a couple of days ago to see what it felt like - they haven't really used it much, and they seem happy to lend it to us and give it a run.
