as you say Kris, the plastering is the important bit and many homebuild ferro's use professional plastering teams. It is 40 years old now and if there were any major flaws in the rebar or plastering, it would probably be obvious by now. Ferro is a much maligned material, chap in Benfleet, Robbie Hart has sailed "Barbarossa" round the world on a 4 year navigation with his family plus many other long distance blue water voyages and he and his wife still live aboard it. www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=1155157The Romans invented concrete and some of the stuff they built 2000 years ago is still standing! wonder if anything we build nowdays will still be here in 2000 years? I was told by respected and highly qualified structural engineer than modern concrete is not all its cracked up to be. Short term profit generating solution which will fail.

Stacks of space in a barge like that with a beam of 21'9", but that nice beam doesn't give you many navigation options, unless you'll take the barge up north. In the pretty bad ad where they don't say anything about it's engine, it says : She was built in 1930 and her original purpose was transporting cargo in the Ajax River , me being Dutch and thinking that I knew quite a few Dutch rivers, I've never been on, or even heard of the River Ajax.
If the hull is in good condition, and if you have (can afford) a mooring then the £35000 doesn't sound like overly expensive.
Peter.

Peter.I was trying to think where the river Ajax was, but my Dutch geography isn't so good. You would definately need a cheap mooring to take it too. I bet it gets sold for less than the opening price though as it is a small a,out of people who would buy a boat like this.

I put that boat up on this thread ages ago when it was up at £50k. Interesting little tug on the deck is that a Vlet? bargemast will know. Its a fine barge but a little wide for the Thames as it would not get past Shepperton lock.

Yes, that is a vlet by what I can see from it a small sleepvlet for towing, they were often used for moving dredgers and pans over short distances. Peter.

There are several similar boats on the bank down near Trinity Buoy Wharf. I tried to get a picture a while ago but could not access the site. Aerial view shows them quite well. They look similar the one on the barge. Here Dropped pin maps.google.com/?q=51.505274,0.013127&hl=en&gl=gb

How odd ! if you extract the lat and long and do a search it is where I said it is. 51.505274,0.013127 Paste that into google search and it finds it. Not sure why the map link was wrong. Here's another link from google maps 51°30'19.0"N 0°00'47.3"E goo.gl/maps/4GwaQE9sxxYRmKYA9
