I don't think it is pessimistic to have a grasp on what is actually happening.
Things are changing on t'cut.
Climate change is something the CRT mention so perhaps they are angling for some government funding to do with this.
Also the move away from navigation towards wellbeing is a relatively recent one and I don't think the full effects of this have been felt thus far.
At the end of the day it is actually only boat owners who move their craft who need locks to be working.
This is an inescapable fact. If there were no boats and locks were stanked and made into weirs the amenity value for the public in general could well be improved.
Public swimming areas, safe canoeing etc etc.
Boats, especially those which are stored on the towpath side all the time, could be viewed as a problem by some.

Thw IWA are in serious financial shit themselves. I don't see them being around in 5 years time. They don't have my money anymore. I resigned 3 years ago after one of their "officials" accused me of lying.

If one got rid of the boats amd made the cut into a pleasure park for citizens this would solve a big part of the funding problem, allow high quality 2 wheel vehicle routes and create magical wildlife corridors with crystal clear water.
Everyone would be able to access and have a good time. There could even be punts.
The boats arrr the problem.

CRT have inflated visitor numbers over the years, and they have had to wind back that particular scam because of the blatant absurdity of It's declarations. Visitor numbers seem to be coming down going by conversations on social media.

That isn't surprising really as there is not much to do. The towpath is too narrow to have bikes and pedestrians and it is unusual for average person with kids to be able to access the waterway.
Walking along a path is not that interesting.

I’m sure very soon they will keep plead poverty and try to shut down parts of the network to navigation. It’s a matter of time then and closure creep. Ps whilst I agree with some of your thoughts about the future of the waterways. You seem to consider it a done deal and resign yourself to the “enevitable,” outcome.whilst I personally think it’s all still up in the air as to the outcome and Isn’t a done deal. Which is why I consider your outlook pessimistic.

That is fair enough.
I don't believe in the future anyway as it is a flawed concept. The whole thing is simply a spectator sport.
Whatever happens happens and there is nothing which can be done to alter this basic fact.
Dissociation is a strange experience.

Marlene Headley chose to call herself 'Ngozi Fulani', a made-up African name. Is this not 'cultural appropriation' as, indeed, she is from Hackney, not Darkest Africa. Race-baiter and thief. "Might this be a smoke screen for issues relevant to her charity. Since the Charity has been registered with the Charity Commission, accounts have been submitted on time, once. The accounts for the last financial year are currently 36 days late. Many reasons were given for the 20/21 accounts being late but a statement by the Charity said an accountancy firm was engaged which would resolve the problem. According to these accounts there was over 200k surplus after costs. Seemingly the accountants have not managed to solve the problem of late submission." "If this fake bitch is “British” how come she’s waltzing around dressed up like Winnie fucking Mandela? Isn’t that “cultural appropriation”, as is calling yourself a ridiculous African name?" "I do hope Ngozi Fulani goes the same way as Camila Batmanghelidjh and her “charity”." "This N’Dozy cunt is a fake African. She’s of Afro-Caribbean descent and the assumed Africa name is not her real name. Yes, her ancestors would have come from Africa but she does not know from where or from which tribe because slavers didn’t keep these types of records. N’Dozy chose to go to Buckingham Palace in some assumed fake African tribal outfit looking as if she’s stepped straight of the Banana Boat in an attempt to flee Tarzan. No wonder the silly cunt was asked some penetrating questions questions by Lady Susan, who must have a well honed bullshit detector. And no wonder N’dozy flew of the handle, because she realised she was about to be outed as the pathetic poser she is." "Here’s the most liked comment on the thread to the Daily Telegraph’s piece this morning: Why would a Black Activist called Marlene Headley (born in the UK) change her name to Ngozi Fulani . Then set up a BLACKS only Women’s charity and dress in African Robes to meet the Queen. Then “Race bait” a loyal Lady in Waiting to our queen. And the best of the replies to it: Because she is actually full of hatred of European civilisation, envious, insecure and full of shame of her origins. Just like Meghan Markle."

And this has what exactly to do with the IWA campaign? Nothing, of course. The gimp spent several days baiting everyone to try and elicit a response and got nothing; now he's succeeded. Well done.
