Nobody elects a PM, well not strictly true, the last time the Conservative members elected a PM they elected Liz Truss - that went well!!!

Of course people make some of their decisions based on who is in charge. Its obvious. Would Labour have got in with Brown as leader rather than Blair? No. The leader must be elected by the voters. I know what you mean literally but I think having a head of state selected by a tiny minority is dodgy. Well I think dictatorships are probably the correct way to organise humans but if we are pretending to have a democracy then people need to elect leaders. I'm sure there are voters who select which party to vote for based on who is the party leader and how well they present themselves.
