Politics is frustrating and anger inducing but ultimately beyond our control ... we get one vote, as you say Al , it is what it is. Rog True. There again, had everyone felt like this over the years, it would likely still be acceptable to beat the wife, and such like.

Life goes on despite politics, for the working man/woman. Rog It does indeed. Our own individual lives though, in the grander scheme of things, are insignificant. Wow man that's deep. Adolf said something like that as Berlin burned. I looked for the exact quote but I got bored and gave up.

I had a Good Woman for a while although when she asked me to marry her I obviously declined.
Was chatting to a friend (!) recently who is same age (49). He never managed to significantly enlarge a womans tits and he said 'You can't beat a good woman'. He is single and was perhaps trying to elucidate his non homosexual position despite people probably asking.
I agree as I was not interested in physically assaulting others but I wonder if he meant 'you can beat a bad woman'.
Of course because of his failure to enlarge the mammary glands of another he didn't experience what a 'real woman' can be like.
I was like OMG and yeah yeah yeah.
DO it again.

Couldn't possibly comment. A wife is an alien notion to me Possibly the other way round? I'll settle for a mutual appreciation of the alien notion. To be fair though, I did have to try it in order to gain this appreciation.

It's always seemed to me that politics , or the establishment is years behind society and slow to make changes. I think at best, governments are slow to accept society's demands and to succumb to pressure for change ... it happens eventually but glacially slowly. Rog

If everyone just minded their own business, concentrated on having a nice time, a good life, things would never change. The demands of society you talk about are demands from people who think beyond the needs of themselves, and those close to them.

There we have to disagree then.
You attribute progress to government and politics, whereas I think society improves despite government driven by society.

I think society improves because of people who are prepared to think and act beyond their own little worlds. Government is a stumbling block to this, rather than the aide you incorrectly attribute to my thoughts.
The best way to look at this is to completely separate government from politics. Government is simply the tool of the nation to enforce established politics. The politics having come from people who care for wider humanity, not just themselves.

I think it's possible we're meaning the same thing but explaining it in slightly different ways.

I suspect the main reason for this is the weather. I go to sea in my kayak every suitable (safe, wind below 10mph) day between April and October. My log shows 105 ventures in 2022 but only 79 in 2023.

Apparently statistics show that the UK is generally getting more windy.
