Is it worth adding this button? Just a thought.

If I had added it at the start it would be at position 9 by now. It will take a week to give us the true rank.

They seem to have removed us from their list. Maybe they disapprove.

I have received this message from the owner of the ranking site:
" Hi I run the UK Waterways Ranking Site (UKWRS) as a free service for a little fun. One of the rules is the content of your site must be (mostly) about UK Waterways. I am disappointed to see you havenβt followed that rule. When I looked at your new registration and the content of the pages there were many hits being counted for pages which were not about UK Waterways. As your use of UKWRS is not within the rules I have blocked the site. If you modify your website so that the UKWRS logo and code only appears on pages which are about UK Waterways, then I will lift that block. Please email me when you have done that if you wish the block to be lifted. Regards"

Oh well. I bet they are counting all the hits from the Virual Pub and other non boating related threads on CWF though.
Maybe you could start your own Boating Forum Ranking list. Then we could have a Ranking of Boating forum ranking lists..

Although their decision is disappointing, as I think this forum managed to gain the position of 21 the last time I looked (and CWDF is stinking the reputation button on everything and the toilet roll), , I think this forum has a bit of work to do to gain a reputation as a waterways forum. It is going to need some patience and persistence. This site shouldn't just become a protest site in reaction to the split from CWDF. It is obviously necessary to attract boaters, waterways subjects have to be developed. There's no point in trying to compete with CWDF on hits, at least not for a long time, maybe sooner, with luck.

It was just a bit of fun really to watch it climb the rankings. I wasn't hoping to take over from CWDF or compete with them, but interestingly, the ranking site is showing CWDF as having 27,390 hits over a 7 day period and the one in second place had 21,941. This site got 7,900 hits yesterday so I think we could have at least made the top 2 after a week. I agree with the ranking site owners assessment that this is not really a waterways forum but it would have been funny to snatch a spot in the top three briefly. (and some free advertising..)

We know that CWDF, if not playing totally dirty, they have certainly demeaned themselves by resorting to the measures they have done, to try and prove a point. Let them go for it, who cares.
This forum is not a waterways forum.........YET. If it does not become a waterways forum, it will just be a subsection of CWDF. All the boat stuff will be in other places, and we will have to go to those other places. BTW, is there room at the top for any kind of waterways imagery?

I could fit a banner or a logo in, yes. I might try to knock something up, had you got anything in mind?

Well, if something photographic could be used as an interim. I'm not sure what the limitations might be on you in the use of the space at the top. If I know what the limits are, I may be able to suggest other options.

I can do pretty much anything with it, but I'd like to keep it simple. Any suggestions are welcome

The CWDF style is simple, but everyone knows what they can basically expect. Although I would dispute the limited views some of its members have of the word 'world' and what it suggests to them, everyone can come to an agreement about what the word 'canal' suggests. Thunderboat isn't easy to associate with the canals, on its own. I'm not suggesting some sweet picture of a canal-side setting, it would be a little incongruous with the name.
I like the name Thunderboat. I wouldn't suggest using something too retrained, subdued or twee as an image. If you have an appropriate sort of image, at the top, it will make the forum identifiable and leave an impression. It could be mainly name. By using the name Thunderboat, you have already raised the tempo of the site. What do you want to do with the site. I have to ask that question, because I don't know. It's early days.
Anyway, going to have to go for now. Up at 5 am.
