Where have you booked for your blacking ianali? Morning. Booked in at Dunchurch Pools. Decided to have a go ourselves. I remember you saying you were going to do it yourselves and I said I'd look up the brushes I used for the first coat. They were short handled tar brushes (mine were made by Silverline) - great for stippling. Rollered subsequent coats. Remind Ali not to have her nails done the week before and to tie her hair back well...

A vlogger called n.b. Spudley is posting videos of Easenhall cutting and the work on Youtube, if anyone wishes to view. Below is a still taken from his vlog I believe on Friday (hope Mr Spudley doesn't mind me reproducing a still) Looking good so far. Rog needs labour to fix it. ππππ

Easenhall must be a Tory Cut. Word today is that it may be fixed in May, Ne'er cast a clout till the tories are out! Could you keep the politics to the 17 threads currently running please Jim? This oneβs more important than that. The joke wouldn't have worked on another thread.

I'm a big fan of Silverline tools etc. Although they aren't professional quality, they're good DIYer quality and not expensive. Not that I would do my own blacking even if I was given a gold-plated set of Snap-On tar brushes to do it with.

I lament the day when Britool was taken over by Facom. I have some tools from both brands but it always sticks in one's craw when a Great British thing ends up French.
My best metric deep sockets are snap on. They really are good quality.
Facom pretty nice as well.

And meanwhile during the sleep period the yanks got both of them in the mid naughties.
"Facom (France) β professional tools; acquired in 2006 (includes Britool) owned by Stanley Black and Decker"

My best metric deep sockets are snap on. They really are good quality. I have a Snap-On flex head 3/8" drive socket handle, and yes it's excellent quality. 80 gear teeth so even if it can only be moved a tiny bit, it will undo a difficult-to-access nut. I found it laying in the middle of the road on an industrial estate one evening when I stayed there in the truck. I presume some mechanic had left it on the roof of his van and driven off. I waited to see if anyone came looking for it but nobody did. They are about Β£150 to buy, which is more than I could justify spending on one.

Yes they are expensive.
Britool used to do a clutch drive I had a 1/2 and a 3/8 but left them on a Boat I sold as was downsizing.
I've never been all that good with mechanical things other than in my head so tended to dispose of my rather valuable haul of tools by giving them to other people.
At one time I had a collection that a car guy would be proud of.
Too much money much too young.
Still got the scars and a few Snap On bits and pieces and the Britool extra large adjustable spanner I bought from Kingston Tools in 1992. Good spanner that one it is nice to see that despite being an adjustable the tolerances are very fine and you can do almost anything with it including whacking intruders.

Quite looking forward to it and will save around Β£500β¦

Quite looking forward to it and will save around Β£500β¦ I think Pete Gilbert charged me about Β£400 for the blacking last time ( I had other jobs done and the total bill was Β£680 but the bill wasn't itemised). I stayed on the boat while it was in dry dock and saw how much labour it involved and how filthy a job it was. Assuming the 20l of bitumen cost Β£60 then the labour was Β£340. I earn more than that after stoppages sitting in the cab of a truck for three days and spending 80% of that time drinking coffee and surfing the internet so why would I want to do my own blacking? I'd sooner spend three more days at work and get Pete to do it.
