Now that the Tories have stolen their precious scrapping of the non-dom status policy, the proceeds of which Labour had already committed to spend, several times over. The exension of the windfall tax on oil and gas businesses, another idea foghorned around by Labour, stolen by the Tories.
This money now won't be there. There won't be any extra money to fund Labour's social ambitions. Not without raising taxes, which they have promised not to do. They have already stated that they won't break any fiscal rules, so that's further borrowing out of the window. Might they fire the printing presses back up again, to hell with inflation? You really can't imagine a Labour government presiding over an extended period of grinding austerity. As they often put it.
Smart moves by the Tories by the way, politically.

It doesn't work like that ... meaningful policies attracting votes.
We effectively have a two party state and we vote to get rid of one lot for a while and 'have a change' because the other lot 'can't do any worse'.
Meanwhile the country continues to be run by the civil service who's job it is to maintain the establishment and status quo as a nation fit for large corporations to make money.

I also wonder what Labour's immigration policy will be.
Interesting things happening in posh chiltern areas as more and more furriners infiltrate the pleasant neighbourhoods.
Fencing going up.
Its all very well importing lots of cheap labour if they live in ghettoes and crap towns like Slough but what happens if they start getting into the nice places?
Then the story changes.
Interesting times.

Interesting times. I'm amazed that it has taken this long to reach the southern areas. In the West Midlands, the mould was set years ago when you look at areas like Sutton Coldfield, Solihull and Tettenhall. Mind you, they can build fences just as effectively, and ignore bridges.

Places like Wembley and Southall went ages ago and of course Tower Hamlets in London but it is more recent that all these non reflectors have turned up in wealthy sleepy riverside villages.
It is causing some issues because of the cultural differences.
An example is that when I am in tower hamlets I am viewed with suspicion by the wurrawurra because they do not have 'scruffy posh english bloke' in their cultural references so they just think 'smackhead'.
This is simply because of not being interested in particularly clean clothes.
Areas with fewer non reflectors have more understanding.
Its no wonder there is white flight from some places. The woman is white but she is also furrin and of Muslim extraction so she can handle it.
So yeah.
I read it as 'the mould set in' not 'the mould was set'.
Maybe I'm just a racist.
Unlikely.

Apart from what Dogless described, the party of change (no change really) just for change's sake.

Tories have stolen Labours thunder.
This is indeed quite clever.
I still think the Tories will get back in. People will be manipulated into the 'never change horse in mid stream' mindset. People may also be conditioned to think that their individual vote counts for something when it actually doesn't. Being part of a group counts for something but not one vote.

It's all fair though. Labour have only got into a position where they should win the next election by ditching most of their principles, in favour of Tory ideals.
What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Unlikely indeed, but if you have any view that is inconsistent with any ethnic community, you are automatically branded as such. The problem with many so called anti-racists is that they can't accept cultural practices which differ from their own. Eating with the hands rather than with cutlery, washing the backside with water rather than smearing shit around with tissue paper, mutilation of the genitals, that kind of thing. This makes them at best narrow minded or more likely, closet racists themselves. Many so called anti-racists are happy to 'celebrate culture' on one hand but on the other, pretend that it doesn't exist, that humanity is a monuculture, all, wherever they might live, having identical beliefs and values, with differences, the things which may be celebrated, being limited to food, language, costume and the arts.
