That would be a shame really, I am a member of both and have had no problems. Quite frankly people should try both and if they get hassle on either site then it shows where they would be better off. I am a member of both too, and don't see that as a problem myself, there are sometimes still some subjects on the other forum that I'm interested in, and I don't want to become an anonymous guest.
Peter.

I think all the Welsh I've met have been nice. I just tease a bit. I have sometimes said that I can't understand why people go on holiday to 'exotic locations' when Wales is on their doorstep. I've been to Wales a few times, and it's lovely. Apart from Cardiff bus station. you have obviously not encountered the unnecessary Welsh speaking game, where you notice a bunch of people (pub, shop, etc.) speaking English, and when you open your mouth ans speak with an English accent they all revert to Welsh. I recall a series of 'Tourist Route' signs erected on the Chepstow side of the Severn Bridge, directing people off the motorway, around the roundabout and back onto the M4 (M48 now) heading back into England. most of the Welsh are nice but there are some grumpy bastards out there.

Oh yes! I've been subject to that sort of treatment. Thrashed up to Nefyn for a dirty weekend 17 years ago, arrived in Nefyn with a near empty fuel tank, pull into the garage, brim the tank, walk in to pay, so far, so good; girl at the till is chopsing away in English to another customer in English, I say good morning (with my lovely soft Northamptonshire accent ) immediately the pair of ignorant bastard's start conversing in Welsh I only wanted to say good morning and pay for my bloody juice not be a part of their important conversation. The people of Mid and South Wales have always been lovely to me though. Despite the land of the daft being beautiful I'm loathe to go to north Wales and give the ignorant twats anymore of my hard earned.

Just to give a bit of balance
I lived in N Wales for a few years, the locals first language was Welsh.
Whenever I went into the pub the locals/friends would switch English for my benefit, other incomers they would switch back to their native language and later explain to me what they had been chatting about.
I have fond memories about living in N Wales - and no that is not about the sheep!!!!

This place clearly doesn't suit everyone. I think it can suit everyone. Anyone can come here and start their own thread if they don't see any other threads worth commenting in. And nothing to stop them from being a member here and being a member of CWDF (unless they are frightened of reprisals from Denial).

Dont forget, the nasty vindictive way CWDF was managed meant the threat of 'sanctions' for posting on or mentioning Thunderboat on CWDF. And nothing of the sort the other way around.

The surest way to increase membership would be to add "canal forum" to the site's name, as others have pointed out.

I'll also add the bleeding obvious that it is a bit of a luxury to be an active member of two (or more) discussion forums. Some people do have other things to do Also, with these two forums, people can now see two different sets of opinions. Perhaps in the future Thunderboat and CWDF will merge and become 'CW & TDF'. You never know!!

Or in any of the canal magazines. How about having an article about 'this new site called Thunderboat' in a canal magazine? Who's going to write to them?

Despite the land of the daft being beautiful I'm loathe to go to north Wales and give the ignorant twats anymore of my hard earned. Similar happened to me, by the barman in a pub, years ago. The picture on his face when I ordered my pint in Welsh was priceless. It's all different nowadays though. Thankfully the younger generation haven't inherited their parents' ignorance. Besides, most of them probably can't even speak Welsh.
