My son worked at Yas Marina for 3 years, when they were starting out with F1 and it was the general opinion that the poison dwarf had the sport by the bollocks and was milking it and the venues for more than it was worth. There were totally unenforceable rules like no-one could sell fast food or refreshments within x miles of the circuit on race day; non-compliance by a street trader would result in a fine for the host nation.
It is probably his fault that the circuit owners in Britain, Malaysia and Singapore are considering pulling out. In Singapore it is a street circuit, therefore the host country (city state) is the circuit owner.
He may have worked wonders to create F1 in its present form, but he is now just poison and well past his sell-by date.

Just heard on the radio that he has been replaced well, he's taken the position of Chairman Emeritus, which I suppose means he is retained to provide advice.

How long before the Americans turn all the tracks into banked ovals, and Trump builds a wall around them?

How long before the Americans turn all the tracks into banked ovals, and Trump builds a wall around them? We've got one up the road, aside from the BTCC and British Superbikes it's major use is for track days and journos to thrash round - it's a shame as it's not a bad venue, pity they didn't think of adding the provision for rally cross www.rockingham.co.uk/

The there was the great Martin Schanke in the 80's.

It's pretty good now, a host of ex WRC drivers and real thrilling wheel to wheel racing in the WRX. the British championship has been consistently good but gets bugger all coverage which is a shame. All the venues are too far for me to get my lazy arse into gear and go and watch a round! www.rallycrossbrx.com/events

I was pleased the Shite haired billionaire has been ousted....he may have been good for the sport initially, but in the 21st century it needs a different style of management.

I've not really followed rally cross.
But. I do have many many many fond memories following the network q/rac rally around Wales.
Sleeping in a freezing car in the woods. But being cms away they they are flying flat out through forest stages is immense.
I particularly enjoyed a special stage in a natural bowl where there was a tyre course and massive water jump. Can't remember the name but a great evening entertainment.
I often get down to the Bournemouth stages of the UK rally. It's really good to see the old rally cars giving it the beans.

My first RAC/NetworkQ www.ukmotorsport.com/networkq/1997/latest5.htmlLook at the entry list - 13 manufacturers! First trip to Wales in 2001 when Colin binned it big time in the Rhonnda, one stage before us looking forward to seeing him in Rheola. Later on in the rally Carlos Sainz binned it in Brechfa mowing down several spectators - that was three corners on from where we were! Did every year following up to 2009, not been back since

He loves wild camping so sleeping in the car will be no issue. I bet it's not the same though. I remember one year we were driving away from a stage though a forest. There was a big hair pin and everyone was going one at a time and doing hand brake turns and stuff. So I had a go in my citroen cx. Yanked up the handbrake and skidded straight into a ditch. I learned at that point that the handbrake was attached to the front wheels. You will know the stage I was talking about with the natural bowl. All ways packed. We did it one year six of us in a transit. Unfortunately most of it was spent drunk or hungover.

First couple of years we went in my mates Alfa 145 then his Impreza estate, got wise and took my transit after that. It's all very well having a flash motor but the cooking and sleeping facilities were way better in the Transit! I was doing Enduros and Bike Rallies around Mid Wales alot at the time, I knew Sweet Lamb, Brechfa, Crychan and Halfway like the back of my hand, so even after the advent of stage passes and controlled spectator areas we still got to the best bits Never watched up on the Epynt, having ridden up their myself it never appealed spectator wise, ace place to ride/drive but one for the diehards if the weather is grim - which it normally is!
