Much loved and respected Glasgow newsagent Assad Shah was murdered two weeks ago in Glasgow. A fellow Muslim from Bradford an uber taxi driver has been charged with the crime apparently having driven up after viewing some comments Mr Shah had placed online. Mr Shah came from the Amadiya sect of Islam which preaches peace and harmony for all and had just posted a message online wishing everyone a Happy Easter especially his Christian Brothers and Sisters urging peace and harmony so we can reap the bounty of Christs message in the next life. This murder has obviously had a devastating effect on Mr Shahs family and also the wider Muslim Community who are in fear of their lives if they are seen to be adhering to a culture of love peace and tolerance towards the wider community,in other words could they be next? I read this morning that Amer Anwar a leading Scottish Asian human rights lawyer has said he and his family are scared to leave the house (Sunday Mail) I wonder whats becoming of Glasgow where I was born and raised, the old city of Catholic and Protestant rivalries where I grew up was one thing, but we never lived in fear.

You're right. I was brought up in a multicultural area in the 70s. What's changed to create this fear? I don't think it's those on the street...

I think this Muslim against Muslim thing is as dangerous as radicalisation, sadly we are still seeing too few Muslim figureheads speaking out

Mr Anwars's quote contains part of the reason I think
"Our so-called community leaders must do much more, they have avoided tackling hatred to preserve their status and that is deeply shameful and hypocritical."

It breaks your heart to see the inactivity of these people,we have some given honours,Sir this and Lady that and nothing. The media has chosen not to rock the boat ,not prepared to grab the issue by the throat.

Reading in the Herald Amer Anwar has now received death threats from his fellow Muslims online. Seven members of his local mosque have resigned citing threats to their families over planned reforms
