Hi all, I am looking for a specific latch to make a baby safe gate along the side of our bed. Know exactly what I want, but not what it's called, so struggling to track down online.
I want a spring loaded angled latch, which is flat section metal, and has a finger hole in it, allowing me to drill a hole through the ply gate, and open the latch from either side. Does that make any sense? Lower profile than a normal bolt, because it doesn't have the little handle, auto closing with the spring and angled face (just like a door latch) but simple mechanism...
I'm struggling to think where i've seen them, maybe yachts???

Cheers. That is pretty close, but the one I have seen before is surface mounted, whereas that would require routing and all sorts! Could be made to slam shut by angling the receiving piece though...
The reason I can't reach over, is because it is a gate on the side of our bed which we share with our 6 month old daughter. The gate essentially turns the bed into a cot, and is high enough that she can stand, but not climb over (hopefully). The latch needs to be on the outside so she wont be able to get to it, and Still allow us to easily get out of bed in the night, and reaching over would require kneeling which is not easy...

Not sure if its helpful but I came across the term "shoot bolt" when looking for a door bolt (not for the purpose you describe). Both my children shared the bed with me and their mother until they were ready for their own beds. We never had a cot or a gate or anything like that. Our bed was low down. I did put a gate to prevent access to the wheelhouse but to be honest if you are doing attachment parenting you or the other half will know within milliseconds if there is a problem with the baby even if you think you are asleep
