I remember seeing the letter about a £50 admin fee if you dont tell them in time that you're leaving. Bit stupid really cuz the other letter says if you dont sign it & send it back to say you're staying then they'll let your mooring out to someone else.

That's of course if they have another boat waiting to fit into your slot. I suspected that fee may have been something like this - did Andy give enough notice? So....err...what happened, what's the outcome, what's the reason for the marina wanting to charge a £50 admin fee?

I was told that day I came in here that I could just walk out when my contract is up.and they can't do nothing he said. I told him on 3rd March that I'm leaving. So he's had near enough 1 month notice. I think I was tricked by him telling me that i could just walk out.WITH NO NOTICE

Well, I'd be inclined to believe you. That's not knowing you, of course! Marinas do seem to be chock-a-bloc; we couldn't get into one as they were full, so it does look like your marina will have no difficulty finding someone else to drop into the berth you leave empty. I cannot help think that marinas are 'easy money' - sucking up an awful lot of rent just so your boat can sit there. Follow the money and you will find The Truth.

He may have said x, you may have heard y, who knows but unfortunately for you the written words sent to you as per the post from sscruddy (presuming you received that) make it pretty clear that you had to give notice to quit by Feb 24th, and you didn't.

But that is just a letter with no relevance if the £50 Administration Charge and the terms under which it becomes payable are not included in your Contract.
If your Contract was for one year ending on 31st March and there is no automatic or presumed renewal included as a term of that contract, then that's it - it ends on that date - full stop.
In any case, it is incomprehensible how the EA can stipulate that you must complete and return your contract by 15th March and then claim that if you have not notified them by 24th February of your intentions they will have already processed your renewal and expect you to pay a £50 charge!
If the EA chooses, either through sheer stupidity, or purely for their own administrative convenience, to process legal contracts before you have signed and agreed to them, then they cannot reasonably expect you to pay for their wasted efforts.

Yes you're right, it would be a matter of what was on the original mooring contract.

One which crt and BW before them are very keen on encouraging. Not sure if I have the numbers right but I think it was one online mooring decommissioned for every 9 marina berths. Apparently there are large numbers of boaters who do not wish to see moored boats during their travels. Oh well you get all sorts. I hate everyone so it makes no difference to me.

Sometimes I wish I was there to sort it all out. We still don't know the details of Andy's 'contract' so we don't know if the 50-quids-wotsit is real or a piss-take. In the event of doubt, or any iffy-ness, Andy should be allowed to leave without paying the £50 but told that, if he decides to return to that marina in future, then he will be made aware of contract details properly. How hard can it be? As a bus driver (ie. a simpleton) I know it's wise to sometimes 'look through your fingers' if a situation deems it. A bit of flexibility for certain scenes. But those who are blatantly taking the Mick get a punch in the throat and thrown off the bus.

I just wanted to add my agreement with what has been said here. Don't lose any sleep over it, Andy, . . . I very much doubt they'll try to follow it up, and if they do, there isn't really much they can do about it anyway. It has probably originated from some over-officious turd who is getting into practice and trying to make himself look good for when C&RT take over the EA's navigations.

All this for 50 quid lol I'd rather pay them . than have to pay more mooring charges for another year.and it's cheaper. Ive been waiting for my contract to run out.
