Apparently the European Court has ruled that employers DO have a right to ask workers to remove religious related clothing such as head scarves. And a bloody good thing too ! Its not an anti muslim thing at all -well it shouldn't be- I would not want the person behind the till to be dressed as a nun either. Eta link to sly news article news.sky.com/story/headscarves-can-be-banned-at-work-european-court-rules-10801375It was more than time they did something about this Madness.
Here is a short video, too bad it's only in Dutch but looking at the pictures will probably be enough to understand the story.
The woman is trying to get a photo for her passport that will be accepted, but there's always something not right, the final idea is not to bother with are these silly obligations, and just wear a scarf and tell them that it's for religious reasons, and all of a sudden everything is accepted.
The guy says in the end that the whole country is crazy, and that it has to change, so if all is well, it has changed now.
Peter.

Talking about drivers-licences, this could be anyone, how do you know who the person on the licence is in reality ? It's a mad mad mad mad world (as the title of an old movie said) Peter.

I went to a Jehovah's Witnesses meeting once, just to look. It was boring. I also went to a Mormons sevice, out of curiosity. It was diabolically boring. We went to Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve in St Mary's, Chirk, and it was OK. Have you tried a Quaker (Friends Society) meeting yet? I have, most if it is in complete silence. Occcaionaly if someone gets some inspiration they say a few words. ...bit like being on the boat with the wife really... No. How 'friendly' are these 'Friends'? Is everyone invited or is it some secret organisation? I always think of the bloke on the Quaker Oats packet! I could consider going to one of their meetings and learning a bit about them. Strange to say, although i'm not religious, I don't object to people being nutters if they want to be. I keep thinking Harrison Ford and the grain silo! But that was the Amish. I once drove through Ohio looking for Amish houses, they have white curtains, I was told.

I have a very nice handmade blanket which my extremely well traveled old free and single aunt acquired from Amish people. She gave it to me for my first baby. Its a really nice blanket. Slightly worryingly spooky but helps keep the infant warm I suppose. It does have quite a lot of white parts. Some pink some other colours.

Well, when I worked in Helsinki as a bus driver, I made sure Somali women had their burkas off so I could check the photo in their bus passes against their mugs. That's fair, isn't it, eh?

I don't think there's much wrong with the Amish. Just slightly nutty in a Jesus-God way, but just want to live in an honest 'down to earth' manner. They seem to be hard-working, and make excellent horse saddles.
I have nothing against the Amish. None of them have marched through Brierfeld with placards saying "UK go to Hell!" on their way to the Social Security Office to pick up their cheque.

how do you differentiate between religious symbols and clothing, and what people of different cultures wear habitually?
If a Hindu turns up to work in Hounslow wearing white pyjamas should he be turned away? If not, why should you turn away a Muslim woman who wears a headscarf, just like our grannies used to. If a white Christian hippie turns up to work with long hair, a beard and a funny hat should he be turned away? If a Hacidic Jew doesn't shave his locks and beard, and wears a black hat to work, should he be sent home?

I agree, although a line has to be drawn somewhere, and for me that line is drawn long before a person of any persuasion is able to conceal their identity on an identification document. For me personally, headscarves aren't an issue, full face veils are as unacceptable as Ku Klux Klan masks.

I like to go to work dressed as a teapot, as that's my religion (The Flying Teapot, all hail to it!). I expect now I shall have to remove my spout and lid. Gutted.

As we get more liberal and open minded I'm shocked at some of the bigoted comments here. If the headscarf is banned it will prevent some Muslim women from working. How is that a good thing? I agree that ones face should be visible but this latest ruling is a backward step for a tolerant society. I'm staunchly atheist, but each to his own.
