No, I've cut as much off as I can using side cutters and bolt croppers but it's wrapped too tightly around the prop to get any more off. RCR are coming along sometime today, I imagine a cordless angle grinder is the tool for this, I don't have one but will get one when I can. I've never been on such a shitty section of the canal, within 10 yards of the boat there are two bikes, two shopping trolleys and all sorts of crap.

Are crt running water down?
If its still as pictured could you gently tap a mooring pin in and try to loosen some of it?

As Magnetman says ..... next year you'll be getting drinks in the pub telling about how you got a brass bedstead complete with mattress and bedside cabinet, wrapped round your prop. Good luck for a quick solution !!!

There's an engineer coming, but he's on another job, CRT say if he's not here in the next 15 minutes or so that they are going to run water down and bow-haul us up through the next lock and into the pound there which is a very short pound which we can empty when the engineer does arrive.

Did you get any agro overnight? Perhaps as well it's dark early and raining, keep the scrotes at home. When you are through to Mills hill you will have done the worst bit anywhere. It's nice from Mills hill to Castleton, not too bad through Rochdale, compared to Newton Heath, a good run to Littleborough, then the locks start! I'm surprised foxy ever gets out of bed, the world being so full of danger.

I hope mrsnotgobbler is ok and has not been interfered with by the scary locals. Been a few hours we need an update CRT have run water down and we've bow-hauled the boat a few hundred feet away from the housing estate, again we've had kids throwing stones at the boat but it seems a little safer here. Despite our best efforts we can't get the mattress off but RCR should be here in 30 minutes or so, I'm not sure if he will be able to do anything but if not we will pole the boat through the next lock where there is only a very short pound which we can drain tomorrow if needs be. Apparently there's another boat stuck a few locks ahead of us too.

I'm surprised foxy ever gets out of bed, the world being so full of danger. Foxy has been giving buns to the kids on the run to Tokola. I took 30 and there were 14 little kids (ages 7-12) so they got 2 each. The Witch baked them this morning. And now they are demanding the recipe!!

Have stones and bottles hit the boat? I would call the cops. How about Jimbo driving down and chasing the little fuckers with an axe in his hands?
Again: Greater Manchester Police Headquarters, Northampton Road, Manchester M40 5NB tel. 0161 872 5050 - just to the south-west of Failsworth - the nearest to you!! (nearest to Newton Heath)
Greater Manchester Police, Broadgate, Chadderton, Oldham OL9 9PX tel. 0161 856 8828 - just to the north of Failsworth - also could be the nearest to you
Greater Manchester Police, Oldham Divisional Headquarters, Barn St, Oldham OL1 1LR tel. 0161 872 5050 - just to north-west of Failsworth

Snotty,
I'd ask the RCR person about disconnecting the gearbox output coupling and sliding the propshaft back a few inches (if there is room). It does wonders but the person doing it has to be 100% on getting it back together properly. I did it with the boat floating..

I thought I was having a shite day till I read this. Keep us updated. I had suggested doing the Rochdale this year, but Jane flatly refused. Hate to have to tell her she may have been right Good luck. Rog

Well, RCR engineer came but he only had a half-hearted look at it before deciding he couldn't do anything. And then the RCR office phoned and said that I had had the two hours labour I am apparently entitled to and that's my lot, the next step in to get divers which I will have to pay for. I may be covered my my main boat insurance for that (but somehow I doubt it).
We have pulled the boat up to the next lock landing where it is nowhere near as bad, there is also a very short pound after this lock so I may be able to take the boat in and drain the pound, then attack it from outside. Well built though my boat is, the weed hatch is very awkward to get into.
Dogless- listen to your wife!

That's done it. There'll be no living with her now.
Glad you have your lad with you. If it could be worse, it would be on your own.
