I took this photo on Wednesday, at Minworth Top Lock. It's the Cincinnati machine tools factory. It was open for 73 years, and at its peak it employed 2,000 people. It closed in 2007, and after nearly ten years of the owners trying to find somebody to take it on, it is being demolished. Production moved to China. Of course, I should say "I don't give a shit, I'm not from Birmingham", but somehow I just can't help seeing this photo as incredibly sad. Any thoughts? Oh, and I am glad to have a forum where this type of thing is acceptable to discuss.

With the exception of Jaguar Landrover what are the big manufacturers left now in the West Midlands? Capitalism or the Stone Age was the saying when the Banks crashed, you have to wonder Coal gone and now steel, think of those people that worked there, raised families, met husbands and wifes, drank in the pubs, bought Austins and Fords, flooded out the gates at the end of the shift, breaks your heart.

ssshh the tories are prostituting us to the chinese, dont moan or complain or dare to suggest protecting our industries from them. Theyre lovely people who share our ideologies and human rights and nothing bad will ever come from the relationship.
