Does anyone have a stove that they can take a photo of to show how the rope is fitted to the ashpan door?
I have just replaced the latch on mine and if I tighten the nut up fully I can't lock the door.
I think my rope is fitted wrongly and I need a photo of how it should be fitted.
Many thanks in advance.
Dave

You could always take the door into a stove shop and ask - that's what I did. I went to ask if the rope should be replaced, though. I went to the stove shop near Halifax railway station (professional and polite service).

My woodburner only has a single door, the rope is glued into a tight fitting channel on the door and when new it is quite hard to latch but it soon beds in. I did find (the second time of changing) that you have to be careful not to cram it in, only fit enough so that the ends just meet. don't try and squeeze in an extra inch to make certain the join meets properly. If you bed the ends with a drop of rope glue they will not pull apart. Of course a photo of your ashpan door might be helpful. And by the way to the Thunderboat Dave

Your rope is too fat. Less is more on glass fibre rope seals.

When I re roped my door on my old wood burner I ended up trimming little bits off so the door would shut...eventually it bedded in....
can I now ask about fire bricks?..I have Eco thingy 5 stove like an Arrow I think..anyway just one brick is broken and I keep having a go with more n more fire cement..I ask the shop who fitted the stove and they told me had to buy the whole set...£78... and then that the back one has to be cut to size....now I've only had the stove about 18months and all the other bricks look hunky dory to me so I'm a bit confused as to what to do...I internet searched and I have sneaky thought £78 seems steep when all I need is one..

It might be worth measuring it up and googling/eBay.

It's not intuitive on the Becton Bunny. The rope goes around the inner rectangle in the ashpan door with the two ends fitting in the slot at the top righthand corner. I will try to put up a picture when I work out how to.

The becton bunny requires soft rope. If you are using hard rope, removing the centre core can sometimes work. I find that heat shrinking the two ends helps keep them in place while the glue cures helps.

Thanks Leo
That's more or less how my rope is fitted, apart from thne join being in the top right hand corner. I will double check tonight, and take a photo. I do have the soft 8mm rope recommended. I have left the nut on the latch loose. If I tighten it the latch hits the front of the stove, absolutely no way of closing it.
Patty, when my fire brick broke I took the old pieces to my local stove centre and he cut me a new one for not a lot of money.
Thanks everyone
Dave

Re firebrick liners, they can be cut from a slab of vermiculite board, with a jigsaw or a woodsaw. I bought a 25x600x500mm sheet to line behind my stove for about £40, cut your own, lots cheaper than buying from the stove shop.
