I don't usually do polishing but now and then its nice.
I came across something called Peek on feebay so I have ordered a tube of it. It comes in toothpaste tube type things.
I've only ever used brasso before in the dim and distant past.

I've only ever used brasso before in the dim and distant past. If it's the same stuff I used to use back in Canada (also called Peek), it polished up my good silver brilliantly. You should be well impressed. You've made me fee guilty now, must did out the brasso and give the tiller arm the once over, it's looking pretty shabby I noticed today

Polished brass ....... love to see it in other people's engine rooms. Me ? .... Well "patina" the antique experts call it. They say you should not remove it as it lowers the value. As my boat is nearly an antique, I am forced to go along with the experts advice ^ me and

That peek stuff is very effective. I agree about having a nice age patina but most of the things I have got have been polished at some point so they don't have it. I do have a very old bronze cleat I use as a coat hook which will not be polished !

Always used solvol autosol myself, a hangover from my motorcycling days. These days if I want to polish the boat brass I bring the hand polisher home from work with a selection of mops and soaps. Yes one has to do a bit of masking up as it can be quite messy, but it's so much quicker and easier to achieve an immaculate finish.
