No excuse for Martin not to come and visit! Don't let him have my whisky!! I think, once up North, you should certainly explore the wide bits. Goole to Leeds. Castleford to Stanley Ferry (Ellis and Andy are nice). Down to Sheffield via Rotherham? London is just a short hop by train. A snooze thru' Peterborough and Hatfield and you're there. Northerners are much friendlier than down South, and Sabina may like to be unleashed in her home territory.

I certainly intend to visit a lot of the bits where I will fit if possible. (also don't forget that Sabina H is a very fat boat at 16'6" beam.)

Possibly Gazza, although the damned great steel domed nut on the prop would have been a bugger to do without damaging the prop Β (just had 2 flats) The consensus was (because of corrosion on part of the Β mullered thread). Β that it might have happened in the past and the nut had been put on by the "force it and hope" system. Β That might have accounted for the strange little peg fitted to the back of the deadwood that stopped the nut being able to come off more than 1/4" or so, possibly as a backup to stop losing the prop if it failed. As it happens, even if we had got the nut off without causing more damage it probably would have had to be replaced because of the corrosion and wear around the sand trap. 20/20 hindsight is pretty good but although renewing everything is expensive, it was probably the right way to jump. I guess she's had a few folk attending to her over the years, some with less money or skill than others?! She leads a pampered life in your care π’βπ»π New sterngear while expensive is a massive peace of mind, so perhaps having to get agricultural with it was no bad thing. The tired sterngear on Fairlight was the main reason for not taking up any offers from my mate to go playing in the Wash, no way could I risk getting knocked about and loosing the skeg or rudder. Now the only hold up is time and getting Mrs Gazza to want to come.

You need to know all's well when you're going to sea. Serious stuff out there. Money well spent. Rog

Back to Benfleet by way of Cape Wrath and the Isle of Man, and Salcombe! I've been on those waters on vessels a lot bigger and a lot more seaworthy than Sabina and had a pasting. Some of the weather off the North and West coast of Scotland has to be experienced to be believed. As for the Irish Sea and the St George's Channel, I spent some of my early time at sea there on a 2,000 ton coastal tanker and we often didn't see our deck until we arrived at the next port ...... In Sabina ? No thanks. Hmmmm!!! not quite sure how half my post ended up inside the quote box ..... Ah the mysteries of technology

I expect the illegal immigrants in those containers must be getting a little fed up by now.

I've been absent for a bit, been to an excellently planned and enjoyable funeral and am in excellent spirits and a bit pissed as well.
I have tried to catch up with your progress but am at a loss. Are you still North Eastish?

Are you still North Eastish? I am indeed Tomsk, still in drydock ........ still some minor works to be completed but drydock are not in a hurry as there is no other boat due in. While they are not working on the boat, they are not charging me (apart from any water and electric I use) so I am happy to sit here to finish painting topsides and deck and other little bits and pieces, in effect, on free moorings.

Sounds agreeable. I have a few days off and would love a look at Sabina and stand you a pub lunch if your free. I'm really quite normal.
