I am indeed Tomsk, still in drydock ........ still some minor works to be completed but drydock are not in a hurry as there is no other boat due in. While they are not working on the boat, they are not charging me (apart from any water and electric I use) so I am happy to sit here to finish painting topsides and deck and other little bits and pieces, in effect, on free moorings. Sounds agreeable. I have a few days off and would love a look at Sabina and stand you a pub lunch if your free. I'm really quite normal. pm on way

Will continue to stick extra coats of black on until it's gone or they flood the drydock

Looking terrific.
You must be chuffed to mint balls, and can't wait to see how she performs back in the water.
Thanks for the pics.

Oh dear...I can empathise with stuff ending up worse than when you start...but you will get there in the end...it may not be quite as it should be but it'll do...... oh and to borrow 'little sis's' favourite phrase..so long as it sees you out......

Ouch. Hope that's not upped the bill. Mind you they always say 'if you think experts are expensive, wait till you've had an amateur do the job!' It'll be alright in the end, and if it's not alright it's not the end Rog

Yey, I guessed right. 👍 Yes you did indeed ...... unfortunately it looks like it was not the only fault ..... I suppose it's only human nature, you find something faulty .... and because you think you've cracked it ..... you stop looking Because the other ram tested ok ..... I have a horrible feeling in my wallet that it might be the steering head that needs overhauling

Ouch. Hope that's not upped the bill. Mind you they always say 'if you think experts are expensive, wait till you've had an amateur do the job!' It'll be alright in the end, and if it's not alright it's not the end Rog If I am right and the basic fault lies in the steering head .... I reckon the bill has just gone into orbit I knew this drydock could be expensive as it's (1) nearly ten years since the last drydocking and (2) up to twenty years since many of the major jobs were done The steel work we did then has stood up very well indeed with the worst wastage being 0.2 millimeters (excepting the small area of deep pitting). Many of the plated sections showing no loss of thickness at all. The propeller refurbishment showed up major problems that must have existed since well before I bought her ...... maybe back as far as her being first sold out of trade. It did mean that the cost of all the work greatly exceeded the original expectation. I am very grateful to Dave Woodward of Woodward propellers who managed to find "offcuts" to manufacture the new parts, keeping the bill as low as possible. Even so the bill for that was about 5 times greater than just the propeller repitching It's about 17 years since the steering was installed (and it was second hand .... I dread to think what the cost would have been new) According to the Board of Trade approval date stamp it is nearly 45 years old. So again, I suppose it was only to be expected at some time or another for parts to begin failing. This is one of the reasons I have so much admiration for Kris, who is doing up an old boat on basically a shoestring, one little bit at a time. I might disagree with him on other matters but that doesn't change. I at least have savings to raid (although they are being shrunk rather a lot this month )

Bit like an old house John..u just keep chucking money in...my cottage cost 100k to renovate..Ive not added that to the value but look at it like its a restoration project to keep an ole mining cottage going into hopefully the next century...Shes quirky and although hard work has slowly woven a spell.....I still miss my boat and take any opportunity to get on the water.....have a few new boating experiences lined up which will l keep me going. Your boat deserves the care and maintenance....shes beautiful..
