Yup gazza , S80 2.5 diesel ...... the lads at the drydock call it "Grandad's Armchair" Great old luxo barge - the mother in law had one 1999 onwards, wafting along in that was an absolute pleasure. Volvo had a tie up with Yamaha for the 4.4l V8 - sadly a very rare bird indeed! I like my quick nimble stuff, bit what are now verging on curios like your S80 and Mr Stabby Rover 75 hit the right note every time π When my Astra estate started needing work, I was looking for a cheap banger, Peterboat, who knew I was on the hunt, told me about it, (he knew it's history and what work had been done) When I picked it up I was pleased and surprised to find a trailer came with it ) It is without doubt the most comfortable car I have ever driven but it is a bit of a tank in town and as for finding a car parking bay that's big enough at a supermarket

Yup gazza , S80 2.5 diesel ...... the lads at the drydock call it "Grandad's Armchair" 10 years down the line, I still miss the 525 Auto diesel beemer I had. The i10 is quite competent, but it isn't as smooth, not as economical asI thought it might be and it doesn't have a sun to put a double extension ladder through!

Another progress report on the permanent walkway (sea wall end) Made the frame for the three top steps out of the 2" box section (as it's wot I got) but I needed angle iron for the step treads (15 metres in total) With no chance of getting new it was back to the scrap pile. Found some old hatch boards off a smallish barge, 30x30x6 rather than the 25x25x3 I wanted they were also curved (not easy bending angle iron straight with only a big hammer and a concrete floor) but needs must. Not the prettiest job I've ever done, but it's stuck together and unlikely to come apart. Considering it is built entirely of scavenged material I'm well pleased ...... The frame on the river side of the wall is a reshaped roof rack off a Transit (?) about 25mm box but heavy gauge, the red 50mm box are sections of an industrial racking system, smaller thickness than I would have preferred (for working with) but strong enough for the job. SAM_2856 by mudlarker2, on Flickr SAM_2858 by mudlarker2, on Flickr The top section of steps needs to be bolted to the side frames still (hence the G-clamp) (todays job) I have deliberately made it from bolted up sub sections so that if I need to it can be moved

My word !!! just seen that it is three weeks since I posted an update on the "Bridge of Sighs" I knew I was a slow worker ..... but even so !!! Trouble is, because once it is finished I know I will have to try and find another project to start on Any way The bridge is now virtually finished, several bits have been taken apart and re-done because I spotted a way I could "improve" (not something you would do under normal circumstances) It still needs a non slip paint layer adding to the deck and a coat of paint on the steelwork but really, it's there. (and I am very pleased with the result) SAM_2888 by mudlarker, on Flickr SAM_2889 by mudlarker, on Flickr SAM_2890 by mudlarker, on Flickr SAM_2891 by mudlarker, on Flickr

Chris should have been off on her cruise, however we rebooked for next year taking advantage of a decent discount and extra onboard spend. The only fly in the ointment was the single trip insurance at a cost of Β£272, I asked to have the dates amended and the price gouging swines said OK but it will cost an extra Β£316!!!! The total is now Β£588 for 15 days to the exact same cruise location. I told them to stuff it and shopped around to secure the same deal for Β£97 so they will refund me only 50% of original premium but it will still be cheaper than their original quote and shed loads cheaper than the subsequent quote. I had a word with WHICH as they are campaigning against price gouging during the Covid 19 period. Phil
