Im wondering if any of Thunderboats illustrious crew know anything about epoxy cement? I was talking to someone the other day about it and from what he was saying it sounds interesting. But I can find very little on the web in relation to it especially concerning use in boats.

I know of it. Our maintenance guys use it to fill holes in concrete floors. I believe its waterproof not very cheap and goes of in around fifteen minutes. Hard as nails when set.

Sounds like it may be a good material for putting mooring rings onto concrete canal banks does it have adhesive properties ? I'd been considering sikaflex to attach steel plates with threaded holes for an eyebolt to concrete edging. Can you tell I sometimes moor my no home mooring boat in London.

It's used a lot for fixing things like eyebolt and any big bolt into masonary and concrete where a rawl type pressure fixing can damage the structure.

Yes I've heard it's used to repair concrete, and also to cast decorative "stone" pieces because it's very strong. it's of interest to me because you wouldn't need as much volume to get the same strength as concrete and because of no lime content it might not have the negative effects on steel that concrete has.

If you want to do a bit of research on climbing bolts you will realise that with a bit of money you can achieve this without too much effort or experience.

There was a formula for taking into account material strength, weight, wind loading and a large safety factor to get to the pull out test loading. Beyond that it was up to contractors to source the stuff. This was for mounting large microwave dishes (up to 3m) on buildings.

This is pretty well exactly what the stuff is for, or it was in my limited world. You need to be drilling a hole first though.

Thanks I'm finding out more all the time, I think the cost will rule it out. But it's interesting to find out stuff.

I specifically want to avoid drilling and am not looking at exploiting cracks in the concrete. So no pitons.
