I would imagine most people are expecting the final decision will be to not proceed any further.

If a million was the budget for the boat and one had a few quid extra for running costs and a nice mooring I would be looking at this boat www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/607/gl-watson-81-ft-twin-screw-motor-yacht-1962I can't see how the Burnham titanic, bearing in mind it would all be overplated or too expensive, could even conceivably get anywhere near this for £1 million. This one is a honey and has twin Gardner engines Same basic style of boat but actually working. €950k it's only in De La France so not far away. Lovely inside

Looks alright for single handed operations. Maybe a fit bird would help but with that sort of money one could probably get hold of a fit bird quite easily. It is only 80ft its not exactly a superyacht.
If they ask about diesel just say "can you put it on my bill"
Sorted

But when one is sitting in the chair one can't see out! Also I wonder how fast you could make it from one end t'other...we'll never know. 😃

One of the reasons I found that particular boat interesting is because it is a GL Watson boat. The Burnham Titanic boat was subjected to a major overhaul by GL Watson some yars ago. I think this could have been quite a number of yars ago. Picture is from the fb site for Llys Helig showing after the GL Watson upgrade. This would have been 60s I think and someone wanted to be keeping up with the fashions. I hope the upper works are not in steel !!! Looks a bit top heavy to me. The boat rolled over albeit while on a mud berth. Hmmm
I wonder wha happened to those two rather nice Smiths patent anchors.
They may be Hall's. It is difficult to tell. I like those old anchors although modern ugly stuff is apparently more effective.

Indeed.
Things do change over the yars. I have noticed this issue.

Still, I thought the american chap rebuilding a plane he got for nothing was destined for failure; but then he did a gofundme thing and raised over $200,000. I've watched a few of the "free airplane" bloke's videos, a lot of people said at the outset that he'd never get it airworthy again but he does seem to be very enthusiastic and driven, and I'm sure $200,000 would help. You sort of do end up willing him on. I really ought to do a GoFundMe things for this moribund narrow gauge railway in Herefordahire I want to buy and restore.

He's been very fortunate in the acquisition of spares; the whole project is now simply a case of assembling a virtually brand-new aeroplane and the only point of suspense is what colour it will be. I'm betting red. To be fair, there have been a lot of unpleasant hours spent as well. Also go for it.

So the 64 million dollar question now is "do we use 6mm or 10mm steel?"
I feel this boat is going to be cut soon.
Why not consider 8mm and compromise.
I wonder how much it is worth for the light iron scrap after the torches have been. Not a lot I would wager.
Hell of a job to get a decent shape to it with 10mm. You'd need some equipment I think. It's not just about buying pieces of steel plate and finding a welder. The job is huge and expensive.
