Arrived in Falmouth early morning the 5th Jan after driving down from Tilbury. We piled into the rib for the run out to the tug which was moored to a gigantic barge out in Carrick Roads. Lovely sunny morning with the wind still dying away from the gales the previous days. SAM_1082 by mudlarker2, on Flickr The tug had originally been called Tennaherdya 1837642 by mudlarker2, on Flickr She was now looking much more battered and time worn but she had been a grand old girl in her time. She had a lovely old Lister Blackstone main engine fitted with a turbo charger that had to be the best part of three feet in diameter SAM_1099 by mudlarker2, on Flickr The turbocharger is the yellow disc shaped object at the far end SAM_1100 by mudlarker2, on Flickr View of the turbocharger and gearbox (2:1) On top of this she was also fitted with a retractable thruster that could rotate through 360 degrees powered by a 550 BHP V8 SAM_1103 by mudlarker2, on Flickr A pair of DC generators powered by 5 cylinder Gardners and a modern boxed 60Kva three phase generator completed the main equipment SAM_1102 by mudlarker2, on Flickr We set off passed St Mawes and St Anthony's lighthouse and out to sea SAM_1088 by mudlarker2, on Flickr SAM_1090 by mudlarker2, on Flickr We were straight into a large but lazy swell that made her pitch quite well, I had been elected cook so prepared the evening meal (full crew of 6 onboard) and had an early night. It had been many years since I had felt that sensation of weightlessness as the bows dropped into a trough leaving you almost floating before meeting your bunk again and being pushed hard into it. In spite, or maybe because of this, I slept like a log.

An interesting trip certainly John. Didn't some Prussian once say "No plan survives the first enemy action", or words to that effect ? Anyway, looking forward to hearing more of your adventure.

What a great start of an exciting voyage John, love to read what followed, and hope to read that everything went better then.
They were certainly very lucky with having you on board as chef and trouble shooter/repairer of electrickery problems.
You have an entertaining styl of writing that's illustrated with some nice pictures to make it all even more interesting.
Peter.

Where is the vessel going and what is it going to be used for?
I hope you didn't get too cold. Old gits have to be careful about this sort of thing. Maybe its worth taking your long johns next time. I would.

(snip) This is where the story ends ...... for now !!! waiting for the insurance and for the replacement electric motor ........ If circumstances permit, when she restarts her travels I would like to be on her ....... I hate not completing a job !!! Interesting trip Is the motor a DC one? If so, it would be good to know of a source. I'm involved in a ship preservation and restoration society, ( , SS (ex FRV) Explorer and we're missing a few! :-)
