I have finished Farley Mowat's excellent book 'Grey Seas Under' Peter recommended me this book before Christmas, I duly ordered it as a little Christmas present for myself. Finding time to read it hadn't been easy - until I had a few days off with man flu last week. He was right you know, what a superb read. It charts the life and times of Foundation Marine, a Canadian salvage and towage firm who were established in 1930 with the steam tug HMS Frisky - renamed the Foundation Franklin. After a shaky start she worked her heart out in some of the most difficult seas a sailor could work in. Her war record is incredible. A book that is almost impossible to put down once you start reading it. If anyone would like my copy it's yours for free. It's not immaculate - the front cover is a little frail and would benefit from some 3M Magic tape, it was not a lot of money (£2.98!) but it's contents is almost priceless! If anyone would like it message me an address to post it to and it's yours. I'll stand the postage cost too Once again, massive thanks to Peter for giving me the heads up on this brilliant book. 🚢🍻👍

When I received mine, I had to read it in one go, as I just couldn't stop, it was almost if I was onboard there myself. Glad you liked it, that was £2.98 well spent, for your own Christmas pressy Peter.

The beauty of books is that we can recommend them, we can lend them, we can give them away, we can sell them, and if they are really bad we can start a fire with them! You struggle to do the majority of that with a bloody kindle - especially the starting a fire bit There is something tactile about a book, new or secondhand that electronic devices will never replace - especially with secondhand books, I often wonder how many people's hands it's passed through (particular with ex library books) and how much pleasure that book has given to all those people before it reaches me. Word of mouth and recommendations from like minded people tend to be the best books to read. My biggest trouble is I can never keep track of the books I've lent out - I wasn't much better with CD albums, but when I figured out I was subsidising others music collection I did get less philanthropic with them - doesn't seem to matter these days when you can rip a CD or download it at will!

How thoroughly community spirited - job well done that man. Share the love, Spread the word! I would love to know who I lent the following to:- Red For Danger by L T C Rolt (yes, that Mr Rolt) Three Miles Down by James Hamilton Paterson Techniques of Motorcycle Road Racing by Kenny Roberts. A Summer on the Nene by BB. And countless other books that have passed my way. I don't often re-read books, but those listed above have had a couple of goes cover to cover.

Or gone to the loo and not washed their hands and picked up the book to continue reading... It's really weird that they try to worry us with all the dangers of terrorist attacks, but in the meantime they let all these highly dangerous libraries continue, risking completely innocent peoples lives, and spreading all kind of illnesses, the world is mad Peter.

Never mind about all those 'cooks/chefs' in restaurants sneezing on your meal before they bring it to you!

No good having it posted to me as I'm not at home, but I have it on my list of 'must reads'. I always fancied canals from being a nipper because of reading the childrens books about Bill Badger who lived on the narrow boat, the Wandrin' Wind. They were written by BB. (Real name Denys Watkins-Pitchford) Is that the same author as wrote your book 'A summer on the Nene'. Agree with EVERYTHING you wrote about books by the way. Rog ETA It is the same BB - just googled. Also got a copy of Grey Seas Under for £2.70 on Ebay.....I'll let you know

It's SkMickey in Cleveland E L T O N is banned thanks to the shenanigans of a certain flamboyant singer. I have had the same problem with the Proby's gaff up the road from us when compiling my Nene mooring list.
