We're currently being ruled by people we can't vote out. The slight flaw in that thinking is though that we can't trust any politicians or bureaucracy so on the basis of that I have still voted no. Even if we voted out the current lot (UK govt.) because we don't trust them we still end up being governed by somebody we can't really trust so as far as the issue of trust goes the ability to vote is actually irrelevant because you just end up with another lot you can't trust either.

It was that hypocrite cow Diane Abbott what sucked Corbyn in and blew him out in bubbles. The poor honky has been left abandoned and confused.

We have more influence on those who control us when they are closer to us. Moving power further up the tree just makes true democracy even more impossible. As I said, many get sucked into the machine at local council level but they at least are more approachable to the average man in the street. There is merit in having lots of self managing economies and cultures rather than potentially a one world government (which will be the next step). Well at least until we can educate the greedy and remove the monetary system....that will be a long time ahead, if ever...

Well at least until we can educate the greedy and remove the monetary system....that will be a long time ahead, if ever... I see that as a completely different issue. The original question was about 'trust' rather than accountability which I believe better describes what you have outlined. But we risk getting into nit picking. I should add that I have encountered some right 'self serving' councillors in my time too, including in a professional capacity.
