Pass on our best.
Makes one feel bad for joking about it.

On the subject of things bursting and umbrellas, Chris as I mentioned had a DVT and also lymphedema at the moment result of this caused a huge blood blister to form on her shin, bigger than an egg . I had to pop out for half an hour and on my return I found Chris sitting with her foot in a plastic bowl, ankle deep in blood and lymph. The Warfarin was doing a good job on not stopping the flow when this thing burst. The doc told me to monitor the flow of lymph so I've been weighinģ the dressings dry and used to arrive at a production rate if over 1/2 kilo a day, quite impressive I thought Phil

I hope i dont end up doing THAT! I've just been speaking to the patient and they plugged him into 2 drips of something - he's not good with details, and moved him to a bed in a different ward to await a scan - hopefully this morning . I'm under instructions to bring clean underwear, (although I dont know why as given the amount of people looking at his nads it'll hardly be worth putting any on) and his phone charger - no mention of a tooth brush but I suppose that's a given. Apparetnly, visiting is 9 until 9 - I was hopping to get away with shorter hours today as I want to paint the boat roof. hmmf... SO selfish of him. hey ho. Time to head back there... I'm sure there should be a volunteer visiting service I could sign him up to.

I know it's tough being in hospital and being poorly.
But it's also really tough being the one going backwards and forwards and trying to keep all the plates spinning.
You both have our sympathies.
Hope life is back to normal really quickly.

I don't think hospital visiting hours mean anything if you're a close relation / partner, etc. I just hope there's competent staff in that hospital. It's a shame in hospitals that things always have to wait for the morning - why don't they have anyone to run the magnetic resonance scanner 24 hours a day? I'd say that was one of the first things to do, have a good look inside - a painless and harmless procedure.

I've never had an issue with visiting times if I have been sat quietly talking. I don't get thrown out, I suppose if there's a big group being loud and keep wondering around then they will be out.
When swimbo ended up in a&e I stayed all night and just jumped in bed with her.
They even gave me breakfast in the morning.

It's a shame in hospitals that things always have to wait for the morning Or until after the weekend. The wifey always said to me if I'm not out of here by 3pm on a Friday take me home...

I think these machines should be used 24 hours a day - they are just getting old and losing money when standing there doing nothing.
There are lots of farmers here who buy lots of machinery with EU-/Government-subsidies and these machines are just standing for 11 months of the year - what a waste! Not efficient at all. As with my bus - stands in the garage from Friday 1600 to Monday 0640, when it could be out earning its keep.

Well - I went in around 10 this morning... apparently the trip to the scanner was imminent...he was in a ward for 5 (he was the extra bed wedged into a cubicle shared with another chap who was unconscious bless him)... the youngest one in there by at least 40 years... poor old buggers. everyone of them catheterised - 1 clearly in the later stages of dementia, 1 terminal cancer (who's family were as good as selling the house from under him and finding him a "nice home" 1, struggling to "talk" to his son who'd been sent to visit by his granny, 1 who was arguing with his wife who was blaming HIM for him being poorly -it being his own fault for walking to far ffs... (he had decided he was getting a taxi out of there as the poor soul mumbling next to him had driven him mad for 3 days) and 1 chap who was just sleeping (and farting) and then Andy.
When they took him to the scanner, I waited behind and climbed on to the bed (there being no chair space available in half a cubicle) I fell asleep - only to be woken up by some woman taking my blood pressure. I explained I was not the patient and that he was down being scanned and she left me to nap... ONLY for one really miserable and power crazed ****h to come and tell me off and put me in a naughty chair in the corner ffs.
I did I was told - I know when I 'm beaten.
ANYWAY - when he came back from the scanner (best part of 2 hours later) they confirmed it wasn't twisted but there was /is a tear that is "probably" the source of the infection. They ruled out STIS (thank god) and changed the anti-biotics to ciprofloxacin and said once the consultant had reviewed his meds, he could leave.
By now it was 1.30. They did him a sick note for 2 weeks for work and then said he could leave when the new meds arrived - them only being the aforementioned ciprofloxacin , naproxen, codeiene and oramorph. - THEY took until 5pm to arrive ffs.
There were a couple of really nice, genuinely friendly and clearly "the right people for the jobs" in there - NOT the powercrazed ****h I'd taken a dislike to earlier. She was only doing her job I'm sure but there are ways of doing things.
SO - here we are now ... in a hotel for the night -( I figured that IF he got worse, it would be easier to get an ambulance to a hotel later than our towpath)... Andy carefully showered, in clean support pants and fast asleep on the bed next to me. I'll have to wake him later to take some pills but for now he can sleep - lord knows he'll need it.
LONGER term, the swelling is still expected to be absorbed back into his body in the next 6-8 weeks but if it doesn't they'll have to operate. We have 9 days until our maiden voyage so he can lay in bed, supported until then and I'll get everything sorted. After that,we'll have to swap roles and he can skipper whilst I crew until he's fit enough.

In an emergency, isn't there somebody here on TB who could help out with your first cruise? Just a thought. I would (but obviously can't, being tied to work).

Good to see the update, hopefully you will both get some rest now and recovery can follow.
BTW, don't be too surprised if some people look at you funny/actually say stuff out loud if you need to pick up some more oramorph from the chemist - some think it is only used for drug addicts (especially if you look a bit disheveled when picking the prescription up).

So what about what people think? Quaysider has been broadcasting Andy's details to the world on here! And I just looked - this is The Pit (available for anyone), not the Members' Lounge (for members only - not that that means anything as anyone can join, eh, Olive?)
