TripAdvisor is fantastic. I've recently learned that the Bala Lake Railway has extremely rude staff because "they talk to each other in Welsh" and the Secret Nuclear Bunker at Hack Green smells damp and musty. I'm thinking of reviewing the Sahara Desert and saying "It's too hot and all there is there is sand". I used to work as a chef and TripAdvisor pissed me off something rotten. We would often get one star reviews from dickheads that turned up without a booking and then got pissed off because we didn't have room for them.

I've always thought that the kind of person who can be arsed to leave a comment on trip adviser, is the kind of person who's opinion I'm least likely to take notice of. Rog We sometimes leave a review on TA. If something is particularly good, staff going out of their way to be helpful etc, it’s worthy of public praise. Ditto if they are stupidly hopeless and disinterested/rude, they should be made aware of it. Of course we always award marks for knowledge of the classics too.

The thing with TA is that you have to look at the big picture. The best establishment will always have the odd crap review from an irrational nutter, but if the majority are good then it is fine. Ditto if many reviews are bad with recurring themes, it’s probably a place to avoid.

People look at TA for a place to vent frustration over something they did not like, i use it for hotels, that's it, who is going to write up a good review about flying, what would you even say?

Perhaps "irrational nutters" are the only people who can be arsed. Well, those and the classicists Rog

I've just been looking at TripAdvisor again, looking for a pub meal in Llangollen, and at one place a user has left a one-star rating because "the portions were too big".
