I am in need of a new laptop, so decided to svae myslef a few quid by ordering a 'certified refurbished' one from Dell outlet. I found the one I wanted, checked though the details, everything seemed cool. The price was well below new cost and they promised delivery in 5-7 working days.
As I click through to checkout it becomes apparent that the advertised price didn't include VAT, so that adds £150 to the price. A bit cheeky not to mention that until checkout. Once my order is completed they send me a confirmation with an estimated delivery date of 11th April...
The absolute bastards. Had I known, I would have just paid a bit more and bought it from a shop, new.

I actually clicked on the support request to cancel the order. Firstly it wouldn't let me submit the request without entering an American address, once I entered a false address and submitted the request they sent me an email saying that my order number is incorrect... Any attempt to submit a support ticket on the .co.uk site redirects to the .com site... I'm too lazy to chase it up any further.

Can't you contact your credit card company and stop/reverse the transaction? Consumer protection?
I was reading yesterday about the plane ticket site Skyscanner which does not sell tickets but directs you to 'travel agent' sites, some of which are (allegedly) distinctly 'whiffy' - there are comments by people, who have suffered at their non-existent customer service, to avoid these like the plague. And that Skyscanner should be used as a guide only, and plane tickets to be bought direct from the airlines themselves.

Look up expedia on tripadvisor and press Ctrl + F to search for whiffy.

When a couple of hundred (former) customers have told about the shabby treatment they have received from such-and-such a firm, I'm inclined to think there's no smoke without fire, and approach these firms with caution.
Also, an airline may honour its own tickets. If you have got some cheapies from an Internet miscellaneous 'travel agent' and you miss a connection, then the airline might just say "tough luck Buster!"

TripAdvisor is fantastic. I've recently learned that the Bala Lake Railway has extremely rude staff because "they talk to each other in Welsh" and the Secret Nuclear Bunker at Hack Green smells damp and musty. I'm thinking of reviewing the Sahara Desert and saying "It's too hot and all there is there is sand".

I've always thought that the kind of person who can be arsed to leave a comment on trip adviser, is the kind of person who's opinion I'm least likely to take notice of.

Air France used to say 'tough luck buster' even when you have booked directly with them - another company that is on my 'do not use list', along with Dell, Expedia, AA etc. All provide a reasonable product but can't get their customer service right when occasionally/inevitably some thing goes wrong.

I read a lot and make my own mind up. I try to look at all sides.
